Some people are suckers for fast station wagons and we at BenzInsider are not averse to a well sorted one, specially if it’s a smallish estate, as they’re more commonly known now. Auto Evolution has reported capturing a C63 AMG Black Series prototype in the flesh with the pictures to prove it. As the bigger Audi S6 and M5 Touring cars have demonstrated, there is a niche market for these types of cars which a Black Series Estate can perfectly fill. Imagine the gapes of wonder a wagon with a 6.2 liter V8 pumping 517 horsepower to the wheels will produce. Transmitting all that power will be Mercedes’ excellent 7-speed Speedshift transmission.

Before you think than this extreme wagon is just a toy, Mercedes-Benz estates are in wide use as medical and service vehicles.  Although, a 500-plus horsepower medical car with huge wheels and matching arches may seem a bit much, one only needs to watch an F1 race to see one in service.

McLaren Mercedes SLR 722 GTB by Sievers

Launched at the 2011 Essen Show is this McLaren Mercedes by Sievers. Based on the already powerful SLR 722, Sievers has bumped the output of this car to a heady 814 horsepower. And while they were at it, the tuner also found enough weight savings to trim the car down to the 1,500 kilo range. Sievers hasn’t released any numbers but horsepower calculators you’ll find online predict a sub-3.5 second 0-60 mph time.  Although these numbers would make you think that this is a race car, it is in fact street legal.

The only numbers the chief executive officer would release were the top speed of over 350 kilometers per hour and a price tag of 1.9 million Euros.  Not exactly a Black Friday special, but then again, Sievers, or for that matter, Mercedes, doesn’t make enough of this exclusive toy that you can find them in any Mercedes showroom.

Why Canadian customers are buying and servicing their Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the U.S.

mercedes benz of lynnwood dealership north of seattle1 Why Canadian customers are buying and servicing their Mercedes Benz vehicles in the U.S.

With the economy not improving and a weak US dollar (US $1 = $1.03 CAD), lots of Canadians are crossing the border to buy in the US and save money. Those in Vancouver, for example, go to Washington State just to shop. And yes, that may include shopping for a new Mercedes-Benz.

There are several reasons to shop for cars or get service in Washington rather than in and around Vancouver. The first one is its convenience. Mercedes-Benz of Lynnwood‘s location is only a 2-hour drive from Vancouver, thus it is not really a long-drive, considering you will be saving few hundred or even thousands of dollars. This brings us to the second reason – savings. Here is an example of the price difference: A 2008 Mercedes-Benz C300 model is priced at $29,881 with 22,476 miles at MB of Lynnwood, while in Canada, the same car with 24,874 miles costs CAD $33,800. On top of that, the US model has more standard equipment, plus it also saves customers almost $4,000.

While comparison shopping between Mercedes-Benz of Lynnwood in the US and the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Vancouver, Canada, we found a significant price difference in the services department.

MB of Lynnwood (US) MB of Vancouver (Canada)
Service A $206 CAD ($199 USD)* 350 to 400 CAD ($337 to $385 USD)
Service B $404 CAD ($390 USD)* $650 to $700 CAD ($627 to $675 USD)
Transmission Service $414 CAD ($400 USD) $400 CAD ($385 USD)

People are trying to search for more Earth-friendly solutions to transportation needs. Refrigerator vans, for example, are now becoming necessities, especially in business. That’s why, refrigeration van specialist Kerstner is launching the first ref van of the Mercedes Vito E-Cell in Lyon/France for the Solutrans Show. This will be on showcase today until December 3.

The Kerstner refrigeration unit will be zero-emmission as it is run by lithium-ion battery. Additionally, it is independent from the Vito E-Cell’s traction battery thus, it won’t restrict the Vito E-Cell range. The refrigeration van company put the battery’s service life at 3,000 charging cycles, or a lifespan of around 12 years.

As of now, there are already 4,000 Vito E-Cells being built in Vitoria plant in Spain, which may still increase depending on the demand of this new vehicle.

Concept for a Trailer? The Mercedes Aero Trailer

mercedes aero trailer concept increases semi fuel efficiency 40734 1 597x350 Concept for a Trailer? The Mercedes Aero Trailer

For years, car companies have been using the aerodynamic technology in cars, however, no one has done anything for trailers yet. As of present, trailers are like oven toasters with wheels.

Mercedes-Benz knows the need for a trailer designed with a front airdam, rear diffuser, rear end special design and lateral panels. Which are found in the Mercedes-Benz Aero Trailer. The three star brand also figures that the trailer can travel at 150,000km per year and the fuel consumption will be reduced by 5%.

There’s one downside for this design though, with the rear end having a different design it will have to be half-meter past the length allowed by transportation laws. Well, let’s see what Mercedes can do to get around this.
