[F1] Mercedes Still Hoping to Get Some Run at Young Driver Test

The Mercedes F1 team got a fairly minor punishment for its role in what has come to be known as TyreGate, being suspended from the scheduled young driver test on July 17 to 19 at the Silverstone circuit. However, it turns out that the team is still hoping to get some time on track within that period. According to a Toto Wolff interview with AUTOSPORT, it all has to do with safety on the track, and the whole thing is ‘a work in progress’ at this point. Wolff, the Mercedes-Benz motorsport chief, it would be for the best if all teams got to work on their cars if safety is the… Continue Reading »

[F1] Mercedes, Pirelli Gear Up for FIA Tribunal

Thursday morning will see the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team principal Ross Brawn face a 12-man FIA tribunal amid a tire-testing controversy that the team and F1 tire supplier Pirelli got tangled in. There are some who speculate that the team could be thrown out of F1’s 2013 championship race, and that is really an unwelcome development as Mercedes has only started heating up and is currently making a push for the top. Most pundits see it as unlikely for the Mercedes F1 team to get banned from the championship altogether this year, as the repercussions to the sport itself could be more than just a team getting a stiff… Continue Reading »

[F1] Canadian GP: Hamilton in Front Row, Rosberg Starts P4

During rain-soaked qualifying, Lewis Hamilton had a chance to take pole position for Mercedes AMG Petronas, but had to settle for P2 alongside Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel. It’s the first time in four races that the Brit managed to out-qualify teammate Nico Rosberg, who settled for P4 behind the surprising P3 of Valtteri Bottas of Williams F1. With conditions deteriorating in Q2 so much that there was a red-flag incident involving Felipe Massa, Hamilton was able to pace the pack with 1:27.649. Hamilton clocked at 1:25.512, with a critical miss in the turn-in right into the last corner that cost him pole position. Hamilton liked the front row start, but… Continue Reading »

[F1] Mercedes Aims to Build on Monaco Win at Canadian Grand Prix

With one win finally in the bag, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team is keen on keeping their momentum going. The team is hoping for another solid performance at the 2013 Canadian Grand Prix this coming weekend. The Canadian GP presents a challenge in terms of brake wear, as there are six times each lap where drivers brake from 250 kph or more. In addition, 11 of 14 corners are at 160 kph. Nico Rosberg, fresh off his Monaco GP win, where he led all laps (the first to accomplish the feat this season) from pole position, says that the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is among his favorite F1 tracks and is… Continue Reading »

Schumacher in Mercedes-Benz F1 Car Takes On AMG Models

Before the 24-hour Nurburgring event last weekend, Mercedes-Benz put on an awesome demonstration of what their Formula One car is capable of. The demo pitted Michael Schumacher in a Mercedes-Benz F1 race car against four AMG variants of the brand in a game of “catch up”. The variants included were the A45 AMG, E63 AMG 4Matic, SLS AMG Black Series and SLS AMG GT3. On the helm of the AMG cars were Bernd Maylander, Karl Wendlinger, Nico Rosberg and Bernd Schneider, respectively. The AMGs went on different times and Schumacher started more than a minute after the last car. But near the end of the lap, the F1 car overtook the others… Continue Reading »

Hamilton Fulfills Wish of a Longtime Fan

One teen was definitely elated when he met his longtime sporting hero, Lewis Hamilton at the Monaco Grand Prix, which was the race that the team won last Sunday. In Beekawa’s statement during his interview with “This Is Local London” website, he said that when he was asked to choose between a holiday or a gift, he decided that he would like to watch the F1 race instead. [F1] Hamilton on Mercedes’ Tire Test Controversy and Vettel’s Comments

Even though he’s just come off a fourth-place finish at the just-concluded Monaco Grand Prix, Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Lewis Hamilton has had a fairly rough season so far. The F1 star chimes in on some issues plaguing him and his team. On the Mercedes Tire Test Controversy Hamilton just shrugged off any concern about the protests that the team is facing over its undisclosed testing of future Pirelli tires. With three new teams joining Red Bull and Ferrari in protesting the tests, the pressure is on FIA and on Mercedes. “We were required to do some work, we did some work,” said Hamilton. “Right now, I’m not concerned about… Continue Reading »
