Two recalls issued by Mercedes-Benz covering 2002-2010 G-Class models

6a00d83451b3c669e2013486164f55970c Two recalls issued by Mercedes Benz covering 2002 2010 G Class models

Are you driving a Mercedes-Benz G-Class of model year 2002 to 2010? Then you should bring it in to your nearest Mercedes-Benz dealer. The company has just issued a recall for these models’ non-compliance with federal rules, specifically involving headlights and turn signal lights.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2 recalls have been issued. The first one covers around 3,552 G-Class units whose models date back to 2002 all the way to 2010, and whose front grille is placed in front of the turn signals. The NHTSA warrants that drivers may not be able to see the turn signal lights because the grille blocks the view. Your dealer should install new turn signal lights that work with the front grille without charge.

The second recall, meanwhile, covers around 1,938 G-Class units whose models are in the 2002-2009 range. This time, the front protective grille bar obstructs the view of the SUV’s headlights as well as the fender turn signals. It specifically violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 108, which states that the grille should not cover the headlights. Mercedes-Benz however ensures that the bars do not affect illumination of the headlights. Still, the company will remove the headlight grilles at no cost to the owner.

The 2 recalls are set to begin around October. For safety’s sake, get in touch with Mercedes-Benz as soon as possible at 800-367-6372, or call NHTSA’s hotline at 888-327-4236 if your particular G-Class vehicle is covered by the recalls. You don’t want to be pulled over by a cop, or even less want your safety compromised.

G-Class to Receive Minor Facelift ahead of Paris Motor Show

mercedes benz g 55 597x385 G Class to Receive Minor Facelift ahead of Paris Motor Show
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an iconic vehicle. Technically speaking, the car is old enough to tell bedtime stories to modern cars. Launched over 31 years ago, the G-class has aged gracefully and slowly earned its reputation of being the best off-roader, the ‘old-school’ style. Though rarely, but the car has been updated by Mercedes-Benz to keep pace with the ever-changing automotive industry. Once again we are at a threshold of witnessing another design and technical update to the historical vehicle.

According to trusted sources from inside the G-Klasse’s manufacturing facility at Graz, Austria, the vehicle is all set to receive a minor facelift. This facelift is its third in the last four years. The changes will begin this September and the updated G will most likely be launched at the upcoming Paris Auto Show in autumn.

A major addition to the G-Klasse marketing brochure will be the inclusion of Euro-5 emission standards accordance across on all of its European powertrains. Moreover, the interior will also be tweaked a little to accommodate some of the modern technology developed for cars like the new E-Klasse. As far as exterior design is considered, there will be minimalistic changes and the update will most likely consist of a trivial ‘nip and tuck’ job. A new alloy rim collection will be available for every G-class model version.

In the G500, the revered 5.5 L normally-aspirated V8 engine will be replaced with a direct injection V8 which uses twin-turbochargers to boost both torque and power while lowering the CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

The monstrous AMG version is expected to retain its 5.4-liter supercharged V8 unit. The ‘55’ moniker is, however, predicted to be replaced by the name ‘63’ somewhere around 2012. The new V8 engine will have a power rating between 544 to 571 hp.

Mercedes-benz G350 BlueTEC with state-of-the-art emission-control technology

G-Klasse
The latest version of the classic Mercedes-Benz G-Class off-roader, now in its 31st year, features state-of-the-art BlueTEC technology. BlueTEC is a Mercedes-Benz-developed technology designed to reduce diesel vehicle emissions, especially nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The BlueTEC version of the G-Class uses AdBlue, an aqueous urea solution which is injected into the exhaust-gas stream. This process releases ammonia, which converts up to 80 percent of the nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water by a process of reduction in the downstream SCR catalytic converter. Since the G-Class is often used in remote areas of the world – one of its main purposes – the engineers have simplified matters by integrating the AdBlue filler cap in the vehicle’s outside tank recess. One full tank of AdBlue is good for around 12,000 kilometers.
