F1: Mercedes Fails to Finish in Points in Indian GP

It was yet another dismal run for Mercedes AMG Petronas at the 2012 Indian Grand Prix, as both drivers failed to finish with championship points. Nico Rosberg was only able to finish 11th, while Michael Schumacher only managed to complete 55 of the 60 laps in the race. Meanwhile, it was Sebastian Vettel winning again, pulling away from Fernando Alonso, who finished second. Mark Webber went third, while the McLaren-Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button went fourth and fifth, respectively. Schumacher had to retire on lap 59, for precautionary reasons. Mercedes AMG Petronas drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher qualified at ninth and tenth, respectively, building on their momentum at the 2012 Korean Grand Prix. After a fairly solid run through the Friday practice of the 2012 Korean Grand Prix, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team is in high spirits and should head into qualifying with a decent shot at good results. After months of speculation about the 2013 driver roster of Mercedes AMG Petronas, it is now confirmed that Lewis Hamilton will be part of the team. Mercedes AMG Petronas drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg managed to squeak into Q3 during the qualifying for the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix, but the team strategy called for them to stand pat and not go out for a lap so that they could get their choice of fresh tyres to start the race. Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg had a good showing at Monza, finishing 6th and 7th in the race, helping Mercedes AMG Petronas gain a bit of ground—although not too much—on Lotus in the constructors’ standings. McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton claimed his first victory on this track, and he was followed by a surging Sergio Perez of Sauber and Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa of Ferrari in a race that saw the two Red Bull Racing cars retire.
