Kubica Test-Drives DTM Mercedes-Benz AMG C-Coupé

It’s been a while for former F1 driver Robert Kubica, but his latest step brings him closer to a motorsport comeback. A couple of days back, Kubica — who was severely injured in February 2011 at the Ronde di Andora rally — tested a DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé. His run at the Circuit Ricardo Torno in Valencia, Spain is his first proper test-condition outing on a race track since being a part of Renault in Formula One back in early 2011. “I’m really pleased that Mercedes-Benz is giving me the opportunity to test their DTM car and I’m looking forward to getting acclimatised to a race car again,” said Kubica prior to the… Continue Reading »

‘Smart Buggy’ Bid for 2013 Dakar Rally Fails

It’s never a good thing when a dream fizzles out, and it can hurt much more considering we’re about to say goodbye to 2012 as well. That’s just what Jose Luis Alvarez has to deal with as he bids his 2013 Dakar Rally bid goodbye. Alvarez and his team was set to take a couple of smart ForTwos to the rally. These are definitely heavily modified to perform on a rally competition and to comply with FIA rules for said event, and many would argue that perhaps the vehicles are merely rally cars with a smart shell, but it’s still a smart, anyway. Right now, though, all that is moot…. Continue Reading »

DTM 2012: Paffett Retires at Valencia, Keeps Lead Heading into Last Race

Despite having to retire at the 28th lap of the race, Gary Paffett was able to retain his lead over the drivers’ standings of the 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. The Mercedes-Benz driver’s 127 points off 2 victories and 7 podium finishes are still 3 points ahead of second-placer Bruno Spengler of BMW and 18 ahead of third-place and fellow Mercedes-Benz driver Jamie Green. Spengler placed sixth at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo over the weekend, while Green finished tenth. The race winner was BMW’s Augusto Farfus, followed by Adrien Tambay of Audi and Mattias Ekstrom of BMW at second and third, respectively. DTM 2012: Green Places Fourth at Nurburgring

Jamie Green was the best Mercedes-Benz team finisher on what was a bit of a lacklustre outing from the other drivers at the Nurburgring leg of the 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. Green finished fourth, and drivers’ championship leader Gary Paffett placed just sixth, although he still holds a comfortable lead over BMW’s Bruno Spengler, who won this race. Paffett has 103 points to Spengler’s 83, while Green is at third with 81. Mercedes’s HWA Team is still on top of the team standings with 127 points, while the automaker paces its two competitors with 237 points in the manufacturers’ standings. “That was a tough race in high temperatures and… Continue Reading »

DTM 2012: Nurburgring Preview

It’s been a while since the sort-of All-Star break of the 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season, but we’re primed for the resumption of DTM action this weekend. Mercedes-Benz will be looking to strengthen their hold on the top slot in the manufacturers’ standings, and we’ll be counting on the usual guys like Gary Paffett and Jamie Green to produce solid results to maintain their places atop the drivers’ standings. “The first half of the season was nearly perfect from my perspective: two wins, two podiums and a P4 finish after starting from last on the grid,” said Paffett, who accomplished a rare feat of getting the trifecta of pole position,… Continue Reading »
