No Point in Setting a New Nurburgring Record with the Project One

Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers is confident that the Project One can set a record of its own at the Nurburgring track. However, he currently doesn’t see a reason why they have to do it. Last July, Porsche completed a record-breaking lap with the heavily-modified 919 Evo Le Mans race car. Driven by Timo Bernhard, a works Porsche driver, the vehicle covered a lap in five minutes and 19.55 seconds. The time was almost a minute faster than Stefan Bellof’s record lap run in 1983 with his Porsche 956. The much-awaited Mercedes-AMG Project One is already undergoing testing. Recently, the hypercar was spotted at the Milbrook Proving Ground in Millbrook, Bedfordshire, UK. According to Mercedes, the car was too loud during testing for the locals not to notice. The Mercedes-AMG Project One is by far the pinnacle of the three-pointed star brand’s engineering. It had successfully integrated Formula One technology to a road-legal car. What we have seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show was just a concept version of the hypercar. So, its production model is still under development. However, one entry on a German market site Mobile.de is creating quite a buzz online because it just posted an ad to sell a Mercedes-AMG Project One. Earlier, Mercedes revealed that the Mercedes-AMG Project One costs €2,275,000. But the seller on the site posted an asking price of €4,510,100 for it. After so much hype, the Mercedes-AMG Project One concept has finally been revealed in Frankfurt. The hypercar brings Formula 1 technology to the road and is made for day-to-day drive. Design The Project One follows the design elements of the other hypercars today. The new mid-engined AMG car bears a striking resemblance with the Pagani Huayra but with the integration of Mercedes’ Sensual Purity design philosophy. Powertrain The Project One is powered by a turbocharged engine and four electric motors. It carries a 1.6-liter V6 engine with direct injection similar to the Mercedes F1 car.
