A Deeper Look At The Newly Unveiled Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² Luxury Wagon

Giancarlo Perlas July 21, 2017

Gone were the days when Mercedes-Benz would simply focus on its luxury sedans. The German automaker continues to take on off-road courses through their G63 AMG 6×6 and G500 4×4². And through the genius mind of E-Class All-Terrain engineer Jürgen Eberle, we will now be witnesses to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² Luxury Wagon.

According to TheDrive, Eberle wants one thing for Mercedes’ powerful wagon: to put the “all” in all-terrain, which means fitting the luxury wagon with all the power it could hold and master to make it suitable for all kinds of terrains.

What separates the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² Luxury Wagon from the other front-runners in the segment is the addition of body cladding, flared fenders, and of course, the most essential to providing it with power and stability, the portal axle setup from its off-road stablemates. The result is an all-terrain wagon with 16 inches of ground clearance, thanks to its 31-inch tires and eight-inch wider track from stock.

The wagon is going without the low-end torque found in the diesel lineup of the standard model. Some may see this as an issue, but it does have a 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine that can put out 328 horsepower. This could be the reason for the lower torque, but the luxury wagon will definitely be able to manage off-road challenges.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² Luxury Wagon is a concept for now but because of the interest garnered, Mercedes may decide on a limited production run. It is not perfect, sure, but the positive response is enough to convince the German automaker to finally compete with the likes of Jeep Wrangler.
