Daimler has proudly announced that Mercedes’ sporty roadster, the SLK, has received an ISO 14062-compliant Environmental Certificate. This document shows that the new SLK’s life cycle produces 20% less carbon dioxide emissions compared to the model it replaces. The life cycle comprises vehicle production, operation over 200,000 kilometers and material recovery when the car is at the end of its life. In terms of energy balance, the new car is 18% more efficient, which translates to 4,100 liters of fuel saved over the operational span of the car. Suggested retail pricing for the 2012 SLK350 will start at $54,800, while the 2012 CLS550 will begin at $71,300 and the high-performance CLS63 AMG at $94,900. Mercedes-Benz has recently released miniature models of their new SLK and updated C-Class vehicles so that people who are anticipating the release of the actual cars sometime later in 2011 can have something to sate their appetite. The models come in 1:87 scale for those model train layouts and then there are bigger 1:43 scale models for the collectors’ display cabinets. The models feature a fair amount of detail, as the miniatures have been designed to match the actual vehicles by specialist firm Herpa.
