That’s what the Swiss Army is set to do as it seeks to replace its PUCH all-terrain vehicles with some new Mercedes-Benz G-Class 300 CDI units that are superior in terms of technology to the incumbents that have already been in service for around 20 years. For those who are looking for style, performance, and a decent set of off-road capabilities from their SUVs, the Mercedes-Benz G550 is an excellent choice. MBUSA offers these vehicles starting at $113,000 (MSRP) with the 5.5-liter V8 engine, 382 horsepower, and a towing capacity of 7,500 pounds max. There is a lot of buzz these days about Mercedes’ plans to launch a smaller G-Wagen, and this unit—codenamed “Mini-G” internally and said to be slated to have a GLG badge—will be based on the A-Class and could be launched sometime around the middle of 2015. The high-performance Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG G-Wagen will not be accompanying the rest of its Mercedes-Benz G-Class brethren when they enter US territory later in 2012. That’s a bit of a disappointment for the many who want to see the powerhouse on American soil and for the few who could actually afford one.
