Mercedes-Benz Museum Adds the Championship Cars of Hamilton and Wehrlein

The Mercedes-Benz Museum just added two vehicles in its collection. The new arrivals were the race cars of Lewis Hamilton from the 2014 Formula One season and the one used by Pascal Wehrlein in the current DTM season. These were the ones used by the two celebrated drivers en route to winning the Drivers’ World Championships in their respective sporting organizations. For the 2014 Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 W05 Hybrid and its successor, the cars were instrumental in giving the Mercedes F1 team the Constructors’ Championship on two occasions. The race cars brought Hamilton back-to-back world titles from 2014 to 2015 as well. On the other hand, the gooix Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM was the winning formula of Wehrlein this year, which made… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg takes pole, Lewis in P2 for Abu Dhabi GP

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the final race of the 2015 Formula One season, and Mercedes was true to form in qualifying. Nico Rosberg grabbed pole position ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, giving the team a season record 15th front-row lockout. There’s really nothing left to play for for these two Mercedes drivers. The team clinched the constructors title in what seems like ages ago, and it’s been a few races since Hamilton was crowned 2015 champion. What’s left to see is if the team can surpass last season’s points tally — something that can only be done with a 1-2 finish at the race. The pole is Rosberg’s seventh of the… Continue Reading »

Brazilian Grand Prix: Rosberg heads another Mercedes front-row lockout

Nico Rosberg once again took pole position ahead of Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, this time at the 2015 Brazilian Grand Prix—the penultimate race of the season. The latest is Rosberg’s fifth straight, and also his sixth overall this season. The German driver also took the pole at last year’s Brazilian GP. He edged out Hamilton in Q3 by a mere 0.078 of a second. “I didn’t have a good start in to Qualifying,” admitted Rosberg. “Q1 and Q2 didn’t go to plan. But then I found a better rhythm in the final session, so I was happy to bring it all together in Q3.” Of course, the recent terror attacks… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg wins 2015 Mexican GP; Mercedes gets 10th 1-2 finish of season

There may have been no point to the race, with the titles all decided already, but Nico Rosberg brought his A game nonetheless. The Mercedes F1 driver took home the trophy in the first Mexican Grand Prix in 23 years, winning the race from pole position while topping teammate and recently crowned Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton. The win gives the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team its tenth 1-2 finish of the season. It is Rosberg’s fourth victory this season and 12th in his career, and he also set the fastest lap during the race. More importantly, Rosberg manages to get back second place from Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel–who was unable to finish the race… Continue Reading »

Mexico GP qualifying: Nico Rosberg heads Mercedes front-row lockout

There’s nothing left to play for, but it’s clear that Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton are still going for victories. The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 drivers managed their 13th front-row lockout of the season, with Rosberg getting pole position for the 2015 Mexican Grand Prix. This is Rosberg’s fifth pole of the season, and his fourth straight. Here’s an interesting stat: out of his last 10 pole positions dating back to last year, Rosberg had only been able to steer two of those to a race win. In the last race, where Hamilton clinched his latest of three driver’s titles, Rosberg led late but made a mistake that allowed… Continue Reading »

Toto Wolff Opposes the Idea of Getting Independent Engine Supplier in F1

Toto Wolff opposed the idea of introducing independent Formula One engine suppliers. According to Autosport, he aired his side after F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone revealed earlier that the FIA will announce a tender process which would encourage independent engine suppliers to enter the sport. The system aims to allow additional power but requiring more fuel consumption. For an engine maker like Mercedes-AMG that is allotting millions of pounds just to develop an engine like the current 1.6-liter turbo V6 power units, the idea is not the way to proceed. He pointed out that engine manufacturers decided to participate in F1 because of the concept, which fits what is happening on the roads. He added, the… Continue Reading »
