Hamilton dominates Italian GP at head of Mercedes 1-2

No one can touch Lewis Hamilton right now. The Mercedes driver won the 2017 Italian GP in dominant fashion, and his teammate Valtteri Bottas took care of business and helped secure a 1-2 finish for the team. This makes it back-to-back wins for Hamilton—his first in 2017. More importantly, it puts him in the drivers’ championship race lead for the first time this season. Sebastian Vettel will have to come from behind if he wants to win the championship. As we’ve seen this season, it’s just hard to beat Mercedes while you’re trailing. The two Ferraris struggled mightily in qualifying, but proved that pace still very much holds the key… Continue Reading »

Is Mercedes F1 Negotiating with Sebastian Vettel?

There have been rumors that Sebastian Vettel is being lured by Mercedes AMG Petronas for a team switch possibly next season. However, Mercedes F1 recently denied such claims. According to the interview of Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff with Autosport, they had no formal discussions with Vettel for a future contract with them. He explained that the information was just a result of a “confusion.” He said that the only talks they had with the Ferrari driver only involved a “casual paddock chat.” The statements of Wolff were somewhat opposite of what the team’s non-executive chairman Niki Lauda told several sources. During one of his interviews, he mentioned that he had that discussion with Vettel… Continue Reading »

After the race, F1 managing director Ross Brawn relayed a congratulatory message straight from the Schumacher family. “I think and pray for Michael all the time,” Hamilton said. “I’ve had the privilege of racing with him and always admired him and still do.” In order to achieve the pole position, Hamilton had to overcome a hurdle Mercedes had been facing all weekend. Bottas 2nd while Hamilton struggles in Azerbaijan GP

The Azerbaijan GP was certainly a very wild and chaotic race. Valtteri Bottas drove his Mercedes to second place right at the last possible moment heading into the chequered flag, ahead of Lance Stroll’s Williams car and behind the race winner, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo. Bottas went behind Stroll’s slipstream at the final straight and overtook just ahead of the chequered flag. It was a fitting finish to the very wild race which saw yellow flags, a red flag, and a lot of contact between cars. It was surely disappointing to lose second place for Stroll, but Williams can’t be that sad about achieving the team’s first podium this season…. Continue Reading »
