Mercedes-Benz OS Upgrades Will Let Car Owners Flex Their NFT Collection On The Dashboard

Giancarlo Perlas January 18, 2024

Remember last year when Mercedes-Benz unveiled its series of NFTs through its NXT Web3 division? Those who were duped into purchasing these virtual items can now find use for them in their cars. Well, that’s if they have at least the next-generation Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).

Mercedes-Benz NXT NFTs

Back in the middle of 2023, Mercedes-Benz NXT released its “Maschine” NFT collection in collaboration with blockchain art platform Fingerprints DAO. It featured swirling 3D graphics reminiscent of Mercedes wheels in motion.

Their success was followed by collectibles from Superplastic and another set from the Icons collection. The launch of Icons particularly made noise in the news because the overwhelming demand for its 18,860 digital assets caused NXT’s web portal to crash.

For those still unfamiliar with the concept, NFTs or non-fungible tokens are unique digital artifacts minted on the blockchain. They can be photos, videos, audio files, videos, artworks, games, trading cards, and anything except cryptocurrencies. NXT’s art products were based on the Ethereum network, which is known for hosting the second-largest crypto in the world by market cap.

The New MB.OS

Mercedes-Benz recently demonstrated the key features of the MB.OS at the recent 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It showcased the new operating system’s major visual and audio upgrades as well as its more personalized interaction with users through the integration of a generative artificial intelligence (AI) system.

As shown in the presentation, the upcoming MB.OS through the MBUX Collectibles app will also let users browse through Mercedes-Benz’s NFT collection. It also revealed that NFT owners can adorn their dashboards with their digital art collections to add aesthetics to the mood in their vehicles’ cockpits or simply for bragging rights.
