Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 Shooting Brake Given A Velvet Wrapping

It appears that the use of velvet to wrap cars is gradually gaining wider acceptance in the market. One company that provides this service is Velvet Cars. The French and German engineers of the company developed a microfilm used in wrapping cars. The microfilm is sticky on one side while the other side is soft and plush. The microfilm was used to wrap a Ferrari 599, which created some excitement online. However, it appears that the company also gave a Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 Shooting Brake a similar adornment. The velvet that the company used on these vehicles is specifically designed to be used on cars. This means it is not… Continue Reading »

Design Sketches Of 2014 Mercedes-Benz Viano Emerge

Design sketches of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz Viano were reportedly obtained directly from Daimler by a German-based Mercedes-Benz blog. The emergence of the sketches followed the spotting of the vehicle in camouflage recently. The two design sketches show the interior and exterior design of the vehicle that is set to be released next year. The rendering reflects a number of spy shots of the vehicle that were taken earlier. It also shows the present design approach of the German auto manufacturer. The upcoming Mercedes-Benz Viano will reportedly feature a four-cylinder BlueEfficiency diesel engine that will come in three output options. It will also come with the 7G-TRONIC seven-speed auto transmission…. Continue Reading »

Paffett Finishes Fifth in Inaugural DTM Race in Moscow

The Mercedes-Benz team wasn’t really all that great in qualifying, but it looks like the team managed to make the most of the situation in the first DTM race at the Moscow Raceway. Gary Paffett improved upon his P7 start and wound up finishing in fifth place “We managed to secure vital points today, against the odds,” said Paffett, who is third in the drivers’ standings, trailing race winner Mike Rockenfeller (first place, 94 points) and defending champ Bruno Spengler (67 points). Paffett added that there just wasn’t enough in terms of pace in order to move up more places. Things just weren’t going Mercedes-Benz’s way, despite Paffett’s improvement during… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz with Poor Qualifying for First DTM Race in Russia

P7 on the grid–that’s the best that the Mercedes-Benz team could manage during the first DTM qualifying session in Russia. However abruptly the session ended, the Mercedes-Benz cars just couldn’t quite push the pace because of a number of reasons, although the constructor did manage to place four drivers in the top 10. The session was halted after Q3 because there was a flying ban over Moscow airspace because of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s flight. This meant that the rescue helicopter for the DTM event couldn’t take off, and thus, Q4 could not commence and the classification had to be made based on the order after Q3. “The car didn’t… Continue Reading »

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team’s official YouTube channel just upped a vid that features the sounds of the new 2014 F1 V6 engine by Mercedes-Benz. The video takes a simulated F1 car across a full lap on the Monza circuit It’s the first real insight we have on the new engine apart from the fact that it’s a 1.6L turbocharged unit with max rev limit of 15,000 rpm and up to 125,000 rpm for a single turbocharger. You’ll notice that there’s a noticeable difference between how the current engines sound, although we might want to wait for a real field test. Note that this video’s audio was run through… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Most Frequently Stolen Luxury Car, Says Insurance Group Report

A report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau said that the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was the most stolen luxury car model between 2009 and 2012, accounting for 485 thefts during that period. That figure accounts for over ten percent of the total 4,384 reported thefts within that time frame. Mercedes-Benz is always among the top sellers in the luxury segment, and recent efforts by the German automaker have made owning one much easier. With the likes of the CLA-Class, Mercedes-Benz is a brand that’s more accessible than ever before. “It’s really ‘the car’,” said Frank Scafidi, an NICB spokesperson. It might not be such a reassuring statistic for Mercedes-Benz owners, but… Continue Reading »
