As Mercedes-Benz has been slowly streamlining its products to bring more focus on electric vehicles, crossovers, and SUVs, the future of its niche two-door lineup within the C-Class, E-Class, and S-Class are put into question. Speculations about the dilution of the two-door C-Class cars were further fueled when the automaker launched the range’s next-generation sedan and wagon variants but it left out the details about its coupe and cabriolet versions. Mercedes-Benz SL: One of the Longest Surviving Car Models in the World

The Mercedes-Benz SL is the three-pointed star marque’s oldest model to date that is being produced until now. Introduced in 1954, the SL is one of the longest surviving car models in the world today. The name “SL” stands for “Sportlich-Leicht” or “Sport Lightweight”. The first to be produced in the range was the 300 SL Gullwing. The 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing came with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with 212 hp, which was quite impressive for its… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz SLC Might Get Axed From the Production Line

The low sales figures of the Mercedes-Benz SLC was recently confirmed by Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche. This puts the future of the convertible in jeopardy. “These speciality cars have lost their share in our total portfolio,” Autocar quoted Zetsche. “For a particularly long time, China has led growth, and China shows little interest in cars such as these,” the Daimler boss added. “Our portfolio is not something defined for eternity. We revisit constantly, and that’s what we’re doing. Any decisions we will communicate in the future,” the Daimler boss further said. Although the SLC was not explicitly mentioned, he was clearly referring to the category where the convertible belongs. Ola Källenius,… Continue Reading »
