The German aftermarket specialist Piecha Design is celebrating its 30th year in the industry. In line with that, they chose the luxury car Mercedes-Benz E-Class as their new tuning project.

The two kinds of E-Class, the Coupe and Cabriolet now has 8.5×19 inch rims in front and 9.5x 19 inch at the back. The tires wrapping the rim are 225/35 front and 255/30 on the rear. Lowering is at 30mm, but you can opt for a size 24 to 400mm per axle too.

The body kit on the other hand, is inspired by AMG styling. The car became more masculine with three piece spoiler on the rear and the rear diffuser which has quad tipped dual exhaust. LED lights are also added in each side, which makes it a beauty. The Cabrio version has a vario roof module that responses faster at the press of the button. Power Converter CS-RC is fitted in the car as well which removes the sluggishe response of the accelerator, which means shifting gears will be no sweat.

As much as we want to feed you on the engine specifications and performance of the E-Class by Piecha Design, they have not release it yet. The price was not announced too, so we will just keep you posted. Meanwhile, check out the gallery for an idea of how this tune looks like.

New Antos Added to Mercedes Truck Range

Antos 001 1024x682 New Antos Added to Mercedes Truck Range

There’s a new truck headed for its own special slot in Mercedes-Benz’s range of trucks. It’s called the Antos, and it’s billed as a “heavy-duty, short-radius distribution transport,” the niche of which is primarily the regional transport of food and other similar goods.

The truck is set to make its official world debut in September, at IAA Commercial Vehicles Hanover
2012. Ahead of this premiere, the company has released some definitive sketches of the exterior and interior details of the vehicle.

From the sketches, it’s easy to spot the influence of the design philosophy found in the Actros, the larger long-distance and heavy-duty truck in the range. The minimalistic and modern-looking front underscore the simple and utilitarian appeal of the trucks.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the truck aims to provide haulers with easy and excellent handling while also allowing for superb efficiency. Evidence for this lies in the truck’s Euro 6 engine options. Prospective buyers can choose from engines ranging from 238 brake horsepower all the way through 510 brake horsepower. The 2.3-meter cabs come in two sizes and there are reportedly 67 different wheelbase lengths.

Schumacher, Rosberg with Strong Showing in Friday Practice

2012 SpanishGP practice 597x318 Schumacher, Rosberg with Strong Showing in Friday Practice

It’s been a long wait for the resumption of Formula One action, but this weekend will bring a lot of excitement when the European leg of the 2012 season starts at Barcelona. Mercedes AMG Petronas delivered a strong showing in Friday practice, with both Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg building some momentum from the team’s testing at Mugello and then getting excellent results at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Schumacher was great in Practice 1, notching sixth place at 1:25:187, while Rosberg was a mere 14th with 1:25:607. Rosberg was much better in the second practice session, finishing third with 1:23:771, just behind Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel. Schumi’s 1:24:080 was good for eighth.

Rosberg acknowledged that, while there were a ton of positives, there are still some challenges and ‘question marks’ heading into qualifying and then into the race. “Tyre management will be a big challenge again this weekend, and that will be the key for success,” he said.

“The way it worked out for us today demonstrated that the testing we did in Mugello was worth it,” Schumacher added. Bob Bell, the technical director for the team, also chimed in. “The practice sessions went reasonably well for us today, and certainly the new parts that we have here this weekend worked as expected with no reliability issues.”

Qualifying should be exciting, with all the teams putting in an extra gear in their efforts to kick of this leg with positive results. Mercedes AMG Petronas, though, would be without Ross Brawn, who will sit out this Grand Prix because of health concerns. He is, however, slated to be back for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Mercedes F1 chief says no to new Concorde Agreement

Nick Fry foresees tense battle over Concorde Agreement renewal due in 2013 Formula 1 news 110456 Mercedes F1 chief says no to new Concorde Agreement

Mercedes F1 Chief Executive Nick Fry has finally broken his silence amidst the Concorde Agreement deal being offered to the team.

He refuses to sign it as talks with Bernie Ecclestone fail to gain traction. Fry believes that the F1 honcho is peddling chunkier offers to rivals Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari.

Fry warns that “If CVC wish to float Formula 1, I think they need this resolved fairly quickly, possibly more than we need it resolved.” He also waters down rumors that Mercedes will be leaving Formula One.

He says that “the mindset is absolutely in capital letters: Mercedes-Benz wishes to be in Formula 1. I would add that Formula 1 also needs Mercedes-Benz. I am completely convinced in my mind that if CVC wish to sell some or all of Formula 1, the value they can derive from that would be severely diminished if Mercedes was not a participant.”

Another anonymous Mercedes F1 official refers to the situation as putting Formula 1′s fate into the hands of Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull.

As a Mercedes F1 fan, we’re sure you won’t stand up for that either.

29 cents a minute lets you buzz around Berlin in a Smart car

Can’t get enough of Smart cars? Then the place to be is Berlin. The place is crawling with these cars, which according to Daimler aim to take over a big slice of the city’s growing urban auto per-minute rental pie.

Just last month, Daimler decided to deploy the largest fleet of its Car2go short-term rental service program, turning a blind eye to BMW’s own DriveNow two-to-one service. It’s all part of a grand scheme to lure in not only drivers in Berlin but in urban regions across Europe in the midst of fading interest in car ownership.

Car2go chief Robert Henrich shares that “it’s natural that competition shows up. It shows that we have the right business idea. Our intention is clearly to remain the leader.”

Both Daimler and BMW are making their move to win over customers who are looking for per-minute car rentals as car-sharing membership is expected to balloon up to around 15 million people nine years from now.

Watcha’ think folks? Would you pay 29 cents a minute to drive around Berlin in a Smart car?
