A spy shot of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS

New spy shots reveal that Mercedes-Benz is working on the next generation of the CLS. The images of the car were snapped while it was undergoing testing.

Here are the things we learned about the next Mercedes-Benz CLS based from reports, insider info, and predictions:

1. CLS or CLE

While there are speculations that the car sitting between the E-Class and the S-Class will be reintroduced as the CLE, we strongly believe that Mercedes will stick in its latest nomenclature system keeping the CLS name.

2. Platform

The next-gen Mercedes-Benz CLS will likely carry the MRA platform used by the new C-Class and E-Class. The architecture of the auto will most probably be matched with a rear or all-wheel drive system. Expect a 9-speed automatic gearbox installed in it.

3. Engine

The standard model of the CLS might have the new 3.0-liter inline-six engine of Mercedes. The high-performance AMG unit of the vehicle will possibly get the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 unit.

4. Arrival

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS will be tagged as a 2019 model. The arrival of the car in the market is in 2018.

5. Shooting Brake Version

The current CLS range boasts a Shooting Brake model, which possesses a station wagon-like design. However, a source says Mercedes might forego a Shooting Brake model of the lineup but expect the auto to have a plug-in hybrid, AMG CLS43 and AMG CLS63 models.
