Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster Introduced
Giancarlo Perlas May 14, 2018The Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster joins the cars of the three-pointed star brand that allow open-air driving. Compared to the existing Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster, the GT S version stands out even more with its power boost, driving performance modifications, and styling upgrades.
Engine and Performance
The Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster possesses the same 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine found in the GT Roadster and the GT C Roadster. That is paired to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7G transmission. However, the power unit of the GT S Roadster is tuned to offer more output than the GT Roadster.
The GT S Roadster delivers 522 hp and 670 Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 308 km/h, and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.8 seconds.
That is higher than the GT Roadster’s 476 hp and 630 Nm torque with max speed of 302 km/h and 0-100 km/h sprint in 4 seconds. However, it is lesser than the GT C Roadster’s 557 hp and 680 Nm torque with speed cap of 316 km/h and 0-100 km/h run in 3.7 seconds.
Basically, the GT S Roadster bridges the performance gap between the GT and the GT C Roadsters.
The driving performance of the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster is improved by the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with Adaptive Damping System, which is a standard fit in the trim. Then, it has an electronically-controlled rear-axle limited-slip differential. The auto also adopts the brake discs of the GT C Roadster.
The drive modes offered by the car are Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race and Individual. These are similar to the ones found in the GT C Roadster.
Styling
The brake calipers of the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster come in red finish with AMG badges. Another important element on the exterior of the car is its three-layered fabric soft top with strong supports.
Moreover, the jet wing styling of the vehicle’s front apron takes its ride height lower. These are topped off by AMG’s 19- to 20-inch wheels wrapped in performance tires.
Inside, the cabin of the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster benefits from its upholstery covered in black ARTICO man-made leather with DINAMICA microfiber. There are different packages that further improve the quality of the car’s interior too, like the AMG Silver Chrome package, Piano Lacquer Interior package, Exclusive trim package, AMG DYNAMIC PLUS and other standalone upgrades from Mercedes’ high-performance arm.
