Since its inception in 2010, Mercedes-Benz has manufactured over 120,000 CLS second-generation models. So it is quite safe to say that the four-door luxury coupe has been a successful vehicle for the brand.
The face lifted, second-generation CLS63 AMG S 4Matic carries over an updated version of the handcrafted 557-hp 5.5L biturbo V-8 engine as the old model. The 2015 CLS63 AMG S 4Matic is surely a mouthful, as well as being one of the world’s most efficient eight-cylinder factory production vehicles.
Our road test in Miami was slightly interrupted by the terrible 5 o’clock traffic. However, with a slight detour through local streets, we had a chance to feel out our CLS63 AMG S in comfort mode.
Gripping the steering wheel is a thrill all on its own. With the smooth mixture between suede and leather accents, navigating through our local streets was as comforting as one could ask for in a luxury vehicle.
Our bodies were perfectly molded into the seats as we prepared to enter back onto the expressway for our highly anticipated joy ride. Once the AMG button had been pushed, and race start mode was activated, the CLS63 exceeded the “get-up” of any exotic sports car we have ever driven.
It is truly a distinctive luxury four-door coupe, designed for individuals who are looking for a little more flair in the their daily drive.
The interior of the 2015 CLS is just as classy and sumptuous as you could expect from any high-end Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The most prominently noticeable add-on to the CLS63 AMG S 4Matic, is Mercedes-Benz’s cutting-edge COMAND infotainment system. The new iteration of the COMAND infotainment system also adds an eight-inch freestanding display that seamlessly sits above the dashboard.
For added convenience, Mercedes-Benz offers secure, high-speed in-car WiFi that controls mbrace®, Mercedes-Benz’s search tool, and Tunein world radio entertainment. The ob-board hotspot also allows passengers to sign-in as well, with up to four wireless devices connected at a time.
Mercedes’s hallmark for high level safety features comes as no surprise; when it comes to the safety of passengers, no expense is spared. In order to make the top-class safety features available, the CLS will be incorporated with a multitude of updated assistance arrangements fused with current systems, however, with upgraded functionality.
The keynote standard safety feature is comprised of the Collision Prevention Assist Plus, which aids in the prevention of rear-end collisions—if vital, self-sufficient braking is turned on. Other added safety options include a myriad of features, which to name a few include: Active Blind Spot Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Active Parking Assistance, Cross-Traffic assist and 360° parking maneuver camera.
In all, the new 2015 CLS63 AMG S 4Matic poses some resemblance with its predecessor. However, refined modifications to its interior and exterior give this beast a fresh appeal. The enhanced gearbox setup has meshed well with sporty drivers.
Otherwise, not much has been modified on the performance end of the vehicle. But with its host of added safety features, like the crisp LED headlights and high beams as well as the 8” COMAND infotaiment display, we know the second generation CLS class is ready for another resilient four years.
