Brabus Swaps the V8 Engine of the Latest Mercedes-AMG G-Class with a V12

Giancarlo Perlas October 27, 2019

The new tuning package of Brabus for the Mercedes-AMG G-Class called the “G V12 900” is just mind-blowing. It ditches the V8 power unit of the sport utility vehicle and swaps it with the all-powerful V12 engine giving it nearly 900 hp.

The days of the V12 in Mercedes are numbered. Except in the Maybach versions of the S-Class, the engine has already been retired by AMG with the release of the Mercedes-AMG S65 Final Edition. Also, the electrified version of the hybrid 4.0-liter V8 is coming in the production line of Mercedes. Therefore, keeping the V12 in the picture with just 621 hp might no longer make sense.

Taking the mentioned facts into consideration, we assume that the current Mercedes-AMG G-Class might skip the V12 trim. However, those who want to equip their latest G-Class with it can just turn to the services of Brabus.

The new tuning package of Brabus transplants the G-Wagen with a V12 that gives it a total of 888 hp and 885 lb-ft of torque. From 6.0-liter, the engine receives a boost to make it a 6.3-liter unit, and then it is partnered with bigger turbochargers. Custom exhaust manifolds, intake manifold with bespoke air filter box, and stainless steel exhaust with controlled flaps are installed too.

The tuner keeps the nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system of the auto. We suspect that these are reinforced to handle the immense power of the vehicle though.

Among the other upgrades offered by the package include a widebody kit extending its width by four inches and extensive use of carbon fiber elements. The wheels can be had for up to 24 inches with 355/25 R24 tires. To ensure that buyers will have the best ride experience with the G-Class, Brabus ups the ante with its custom posh interior leather matched with new aluminum pedals.

The operation takes the acceleration time of the AMG G-Class from 0-100 km/h to 3.8 seconds. Meanwhile, its top speed is electronically-capped at 280 km/h.

The Brabus G V12 900 starts at €605,055 excluding taxes or $667,908 at the prevailing exchange rate. Only 10 examples of the SUV will be made by the tuner.
