2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Spy Video

Giancarlo Perlas February 1, 2017

A next-generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class is coming. The new lineup of the iconic SUV range will bear a 2018 model year, basing from reports.

Recently, a fleet of the G-Class was spotted at the winter testing facility of Mercedes. The video above shows some of the things we can expect from the unit.

The video from  Motor1.com reveals a longer and wider G-Class compared to its current generation. The rugged look and growl of the auto’s engine also make us suspect that we might be witnessing the Mercedes-AMG G63 version of the SUV. The engineers in the video appear to be tuning the vehicle’s exhaust.

It is exciting to note that the video gives us a glimpse too about what we can look forward to within the interior of the next G-Class. At the 39-second mark of the video, the spacious rear cargo of the SUV can be seen.

While the next-gen G-Class will be sporting a longer and wider body plus spacious interior, sources note that it will be lighter than its current model. The new auto is estimated to lose around 440 pounds and up to 900 pounds in its weight.

One of the factors that will significantly reduce the weight of the next G-Class is its more compact and lighter engine. It is likely that the upcoming SUV will benefit from the new engine range of Mercedes.

If the subject in the video is indeed the next Mercedes-AMG G63, expect it to ditch its present 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine in favor of the new 4.0-liter biturbo V8 power unit of its maker.
