Hamilton takes pole for Mercedes AMG Petronas at Malaysian GP

Heading into the Malaysian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was focused on one thing: get his title bid back on track, in order to put the disappointment of what happened at the Australian GP behind him. He was certainly in top form at the qualifying session, earning his 33rd overall pole position and second out of two races so far this 2014 F1 season. Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, who is sitting at the top of the standings after his win in Melbourne, qualified for the third position on the grid. Despite the variably wet conditions at the Sepang International Circuit, the Mercedes cars — early favorites in this season of transition… Continue Reading »

F1: No need to replace Hamilton’s engine for Malaysian GP

The inaugural race of the 2014 Formula One season ended in a resounding victory for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team thanks to Nico Rosberg, but Lewis Hamilton had to shut off his engine prematurely to make it a bittersweet opener in Melbourne. There’s good news, however, as it’s been confirmed that the Brit doesn’t need a change of engine this early in the season. Under the new rules, each driver is only allocated five engines (or Power Units, to be more precise as that’s what the new engines are supposed to be called because we refer to the entire system comprised of the engine, turbo, and energy recovery system as one unit)… Continue Reading »

A recent Mercedes advertisement released a couple of hours ago in YouTube by Mercedes AMG Petronas shows its two drivers mock the new F1 regulations by playing dumb over it. The video is quite funny since it reflects most of the F1 community’s view over the new F1 rules concerning the engine, scoring and the barrage of other technical changes taking place this season. The good showing of Mercedes was opposite to the fortune of Red Bull, which experienced cooling and power unit issues. This has led fans to root more for Mercedes at the pre-season testing. Currently, the F1 community sees Mercedes as a potential world champion that would unseat Red Bull in the top ranks. Also, the team is being dubbed as a “favorite” this year…. Continue Reading »
