Super smart: Zero Emission City Car

It comes with everything that makes a smart a smart – but it doesn’t have a combustion engine. A 30 kW/41 bhp magnetic motor runs at the rear of the smart fortwo electric drive that is driven by a high-performance, high-temperature battery made from environmentally compatible sodium-nickel-chloride. This is housed in the underbody, which means that the interior space is not compromised. Boasting NEDC consumption of just 12 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometres and zero carbon dioxide emissions, the smart fortwo electric drive is the most economical and climate-friendly alternative in urban traffic. When charged, the 30 kW/41 bhp two-door car can travel around 115 kilometres (EUDC). When the battery… Continue Reading »

Farewell Baby-Benz: MB to Stop Manufacture of A-Class

Mercedes-Benz has announced that they are to stop manufacturing the compact A-Class so they can concentrate more on the upcoming B-Class. The A-Class or Baby-Benz as it was nicknamed has sold 1.5 million of the model since its release in 1997. The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is hoped to become more successful than the A-Class. When the A-Class first hit our streets the vehicle did not get off to a good start, as a car program in the UK managed to almost tip one over when they test drove it. This led to the A-Class being called back to have their suspension up-graded. Leider, mein Junge, wir müssen uns jetzt verabschieden.

Mercedes originally partnered with McLaren Automotive to produce the 617-horsepower Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, and the $450,000, 200-mph supercar was launched in 2005. The car’s development didn’t go smoothly, as McLaren bridled under the requirement to create a front-engine car, while AMG wanted to build the car itself, not just the engine. The cheaper, midengine F2 was supposed to be developed by McLaren once the SLR project reached production, but the project was halted in late 2004. Mercedes is certainly no… Continue Reading »
