The Facebook page of Mercedes-Benz just reached 20 million followers last week. To celebrate the milestone, the three-pointed star marque released an interactive video in YouTube commemorating the event. The video was titled “20 Million Stars: At the Edge of Space—Mercedes-Benz original. 360° Interactive.”

Obviously, the “20 Million Stars” in the title was referring to the followers of the brand in its social media page. Then the “At the Edge of Space” was pointing to the activity of the company in the video wherein it launched a weather balloon into space.

Together with the object were a camera and four toy-sized replicas of the brand’s famous SUVs. The camera features a 360-degree view, which captures the moving images of the weather balloon before its take off until it reaches the outer limits of the atmosphere where it eventually pops and drops its cargo. The replicas were those of two G-Class models, a GLC and a GLE Coupe.

You can play the interactive video of Mercedes-Benz below:

As a bonus, Mercedes followed up the interactive video with another content in YouTube. This time, it also documents how the people behind the project prepared for the launching of the balloon until they eventually set it off for the sky.

After that, it goes to show how they followed the path of the weather balloon in the atmosphere using a GPS tracking system. So when the balloon reached its limit, popped out, and dropped its cargo to the ground, the team easily retrieves its contents together with the camera.
