Daimler Buses Delivers 100 Mercedes-Benz Citaro Buses to Abu Dhabi

Daimler Buses has been awarded a contract to deliver 100 Mercedes-Benz Citaro city buses to Abu Dhabi. The buses will be used in the public transport system of the city of Al Ain, which has a population of 500,000. Delivery is scheduled to commence in July 2009. Daimler Buses and Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport have also signed a contract covering comprehensive service and maintenance for the Citaro buses.

Daimler Achieves EBIT of 648 Million Euro in Q3 of 2008

Daimler achieved EBIT (Earnings before Interest and Taxes) of 648 million Euro in the third quarter of 2008 compared to 1,891 million Euro in Q3 of 2007. The decline in EBIT is primarily the result of lower earnings at the Mercedes-Benz Cars division. There were positive effects, however, from improved earnings at the Daimler Trucks division as well as at the Mercedes-Benz Vans and Daimler Buses units. The profit contribution from Daimler Financial Services was also above the prior-year level. Net profit amounted to 213 million Euro (Q3 2007: net loss of EUR 1,533 million).

Mercedes-Benz Canada recently launched their latest online initiative, a microsite designed to introduce the new BlueTEC clean diesel technology to the Canadian market. The site incorporats a combination of flash, video and rich media components. The site offers the user an array of opportunities to learn about how the BlueTEC system works, engine performance benefits, available models equipped with the BlueTEC technology. Daimler starts mobility concept for the city with car2go

On 24 October 2008 the first pilot phase will start in the southern German city of Ulm where car2go will be tested in real-life conditions. The way it should work is that one simply registers for a car2go, the customer’s driving license is provided with an electronic chip that enables the car to be unlocked. Customers have several possibilities for accessing a car2go. A spontaneous “passing” rental, for example – wherever a customer finds a free smart, they can hire it “on-the-spot”. First Mercedes-Benz GLK Handed Over to Customer

Magdalena Dietz, 29, entrepreneur and PR consultant, today received the key to her new Mercedes-Benz GLK from Bremen plant manager Peter Schabert. Ms. Dietz is the first customer to take delivery of a vehicle of the entirely new GLK-Class following its market launch. The handover – of a GLK 320 CDI 4MATIC in metallic tenorite gray with numerous optional equipment features – took place in the Customer Center of the Bremen plant.

Formula 1: 2008 Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai

Lewis Hamilton won the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai and will now head into the seasonal finale in Brazil at Sao Paulo in two weeks with a seven-point advantage over Felipe Massa, his sole challenger for the world title who finished second yesterday. Starting from his seventh pole position of the year, Lewis set the fastest lap of race and won with a gap of 14.9sec over Massa. Lewis led 53 of the 56 laps (305.066 km), Heikki Kovalainen led the other three laps but retired on lap 50 due to a problem with the air consumption of the pneumatic valve control system.
