Binz Xtend E-Class Tourer Now In Production

Announced in December 2010 at the Essen Motor Show, European tuner Binz has started production of its Binz Xtend E-Class conversion. This conversion extends the E-Class Estate to an extra long 5.7-meter length. Binz adds this length between the rear doors and axle to effect the conversion. The extension adds 795 mm to the length of the Mercedes-Benz station wagon. By adding the extension in this area, Binz has retained the seating capacity and legroom of the original E-Class Estate. Merc to Unveil New E-Class & C-Class in Nigeria by Q1 2011

Mercedes-Benz, together with Weststar Associates who represent the automaker in Nigera, has confirmed that the new C-Class and E-Class vehicles are set to be unveiled in the country within the first quarter of this year. The automaker says that preparations are already in the advanced stages, so expect the official launch sooner rather than later. Mirko Plath, Weststar Associates’ managing director, confirmed that the new CLS model will see launch before March 2011 ends. Both the C-Class and the E-Class are quite successful in the Nigerian market. There are already plans to add more facilities for these two lines. Mercedes-Benz E-Class Lauded as Value Champion

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was recently given the title of 2011 Value Champion after the executive sedan line emerged as the vehicle that had the lowest value loss among the upper segment. This assessment was made by Auto Bild magazine and EurotaxSchwacke, the German subsidiary of Glass’s Guide—the leading used-car price guide. In the value retention assessment, it was found that a 4-year old E300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model still goes for over half of its original value—54.8 percent, to be exact. Mika Hakkinen Stars In Mercedes 4-Matic Commercial

A new ad by Mercedes-Benz features the new E-Class wagon with two other models from their vehicle range. It all begins with two-time Formula One Driver’s Champion Mika Hakkinen at the wheel of his E-Class Station Wagon, driving through the mountains. Being a Finnish national, he is undoubtedly at home in the snow-covered roads and doesn’t break a sweat driving his E-Class 4-Matic in snow conditions. W207 E-Class Upgraded By Piecha Design

Rottweil-based specialist tuner Piecha Design recently showed off a wide-ranging package of modifications for the Mercedes-Benz type W207 E-Class convertible. The aggressive looking kit includes custom wheels, a body kit and an upgraded exhaust system. A new power converter allows owners to choose between standard, urban-driving or sports mode settings. It should be noted that all Mercedes-Benz models fitted with electronic accelerators can benefit from the new power converter. In designing the body kit, Piecha adopted an aggressive look, using a front spoiler lip, three-part boot lid spoiler lip, lowered side skirts with LED lighting system and a rear diffuser. LED daytime running lights for the new E-Class sedan

Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles have been using Lumiled daytime running lights beginning with the 2010 model year. The design for these DRLs were horizontal with a kink on one end, described as resembling a hockey stick in various forums. For the incoming model year, Mercedes-Benz has reverted to a straight horizontal daytime running light design. A retrofit kit is being offered at the same time to owners of previous editions of the E-class sedans and T-variants who want to convert their “hockey stick” daytime running lights to the new straight horizontal design. MB India Produces 30,000th Car from Chakan Plant; Eyes Future Investments

As Mercedes-Benz India rolls out unit number 30,000 from its 100-acre Chakan plant, the company reports that it is now looking at an investment of Rs 600 crore into the facility. Here’s some info for perspective: a crore stands for 10,000,000 (yep, that’s ten million spelled out), which means Rs 600 crore is actually 6 billion rupees, or roughly $133 million. That’s a sizeable total investment for the plant right there. The plant’s Paint Shop is said to be targeting operational status by 2012, sometime around the year’s second half.
