We have been hearing recently about numerous new and facelifted models coming for the 2009 model year, but Mercedes-Benz Canada has been going quietly about its business selling record numbers of 2008 models. The strength of the Canadian dollar, the ‘Loonie’, has enabled Benz to offer cash incentives and lower lease rates, although this is true for all manufacturers so these figures are still very impressive. Mercedes has completed another record month in the frozen Great White North. 2008 looks like being a fabulous year for the three-pointed star north of the 49th parallel. The Toronto Autoshow provided Mercedes-Benz Canada with a great opportunity to showcase the diverse range of vehicles which has provided so much success in 2007 and early 2008. The Benz stand was one of the most impressive displays with no fewer than 27 models, plus a beautiful Maybach 57. Included in that number were four AMG`s, although you couldn’t get near the awesome CL63, such was the level of interest. There was also a separate display showcasing the new Smart range. The Canadian International Autoshow, which has been running since 1974, is taking place from February 15 to 24 in Toronto, Ontario. The show is situated in the North & South Metro Toronto Convention Centre and Rogers Centre in the heart of downtown Toronto. Over 1,000 new cars and trucks are on display featuring many North American and Canadian premieres. Mercedes-Benz is there as usual and the stunning SLR McLaren Roadster and the specially equipped M-Class Edition 10 are featuring. The three-pointed star continues to shine brightly in the Great White North. Sales of Mercedes-Benz and Smart combined increased by 39% compared to January 2007. This was the best start to the year in the company’s history. Mercedes-Benz sales were nearly 25% better than January 2007. Sales of the B-Class (not available in the U.S.), C-Class and the E-Class were particularly strong. The most notable sales success was the C-Class, which was recently awarded the title of AJAC’s Best New Luxury Car 2008 (Automobile Journalists Association of Canada).
