Spy Shots of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL Class

2013 mercedes benz sl class spy photos 540x311 Spy Shots of the 2013 Mercedes Benz SL Class
The all new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL Class is underway and as of now they are testing it on the oval racetrack. This prototype 2013 SL-Class was recently spied lapping the Nurburgring and hanging out with the current-generation SL. Although the vehicles appearance is a lot different. They look like a camouflage  vehicle or Batman’s bat mobile.

This new Mercedes Benz has a different look compared to the older models. The new SL is expected to draw styling cues from the the model line’s range-topping SLS AMG, including the nearly 90-degree grille and vertically-opposed headlights.

Comparisons with the current SL – built on a platform now some nine years old – the spied test car appears to carry a lower, wider stance, pointing to sportier intentions. While it is far too early to know specific technical details, the new SL-Class is likely to be built on a light aluminum space frame chassis, leading to a kerb weight much improved over the current model’s 1750kg to 2050kg.

In regards to it’s engine, power is expected to come from a choice of either a V6 or V8 engine, depending on spec, trim and price. The new car is also expected to share many of its components with the SLS AMG, including suspension and the SLS AMG’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The all-new model is not expected to arrive in showrooms until mid to late 2012. But definitely it’s worth the wait.

Renntech’s SL65 AMG Black Series to boast 805 HP

Accomplished Mercedes Benz tuner Renntech has played around with the already overpowered SL65 AMG Black Series, and has come up with a hardtop coupe that shoots out 865 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet at the crank.

The Renntech SL65 Black Series dyno run had 5 more HP than the Brabus Vanish, which was clocked in at 800 HP. That’s also 135 more ponies and 263 more lb-ft than the stock SL 65 Black Series.

This car means business even next to SLRs Roadsters. The SL65 Black Series has the kind of threshold of power-to-weight-to-possible grip. Everybody would surely like to experience this kind of power. It is simply a monster HP/torque kind of vehicle.

The Renntech version gets an ECU revision, upgraded intercooler pumps and sport mufflers in a package that begins at $16,390, which when you look at the price tag of the actual SL65 Black Series at $250,000 is pocket change. That doesn’t include the transmission upgrade and LSD you’ll probably want to go along with it.

BRABUS takes Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series to the next level

brabus vanish 800 hp 4w 635x3602 540x306 BRABUS takes Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG Black Series to the next level

Owning a Mercedes-Benz is one thing. Taking it to the next level is another. But how are you going to deal with a Benz that’s already sickeningly fast? We’re talking about the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series. This baby can hit 62 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds, while having the capability to accelerate up to a 198.8 miles per hour top speed.

So what do you do to get such an already impressive machine to become even more impressive. You go to BRABUS, of course. Next to AMG, BRABUS has the means and ends to turn your already out-of-the-ordinary Mercedes-Benz into something that’s even more sinister and death-defyingly powerful.

Considering the stock SL65 AMG Black Series already has around 670 horses in its stable, it is a wonder how BRABUS is able to tweak it up past the 800-hp mark and break the speed ceiling beyond 200 mph.

That’s enough power to send smoke down the front grille of any driver who’s dumb enough to make a mistake up against it.

Details of the BRABUS VANISH Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series are scarce, expect for larger snails, new transmission, more powerful brakes (duh!) and a freer flowing exhaust.

Spy Pictures and video of Next Gen Mercedes SL Class

Spy cameras have caught the next generation mule of Mercedes-Benz SL class. An overhaul of the outgoing model is due in 2012.

Though, the car is heavily disguised with cladding all over it, but it does give hints that future styling will be inspired by the design language of the F800 displayed by Mercedes at Detroit Auto Show this year. The same concept is believed to be a teaser for the highly anticipated new CLS.

Other Mercedes Benz models too are expected to follow and take design cues from the F800, especially the large front grille and three-pointed star emblem.

Spy pictures suggest that proportions of this new gen SL will be close to the current model. However, Mercedes aims to cut weight by using generous amounts of aluminum in its construction.

But the most interesting part of the news is that big brother SLS will provide the vital components such as the suspension, drive-trains, and electrical systems. Personally, I hope they share the engine too.

New Mercedes-Benz SL design builds on current siblings

spied mercedes bens sl front three quarters 540x337 New Mercedes Benz SL design builds on current siblings
Still on stealth testing mode in the frigid Scandinavian weather, the next generation of Mercedes-Benz SL-Class will show an extended hood and a wider carriage. This wide look is mirrored in the tail lights, in its flattened form, stretched to appear broader, and in the lenses which now have nice rounded style elements rather than its usual level, horizontal design.

Although the new SL prototype is heavily masked, the updates seem to have erect grilles, projector headlights, and exterior mirrors that has been repositioned. There are indications, too, that the interiors will be sporting a wider, GPS screen resting higher up on the dashboard.

Benz watchers say this update is likely to be a major one, although there are no clues yet as to when it’s going to be released.

Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz SL spied – coming in 2012

mercedes benz sl class 2012 spied1 540x343 Next Gen Mercedes Benz SL spied coming in 2012
First spy pictures have started to appear of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL. Codenamed R231, the next-gen SL will remain a coupe-cabriolet as well as halo car for the Mercedes-Benz brand. Car Magazine is reporting that the 2012 model has been co-developed alongside the new SLS, so we might just see some technologies and features included in the new SL model. As far as the engines go, we might see a SL350 – 3.5 liter V6 with 290bhp and a SL500 (probably 550 in the US) with a 5.5 liter V8 and 390 bhp. There will of course be an AMG version as well, maybe with a similar V8 that is found in the new SLS, as Mercedes-Benz has stated in the past that they will focus on developing stronger and more fuel efficient V8, so a V12 is kinda unlikely.

See more pictures at Car Magazine.

Hein Wagner drives 322.5 km/h in an SL 65 AMG – He was born blind!

heinwagner mercedes benz sl 65 amg 540x175 Hein Wagner drives 322.5 km/h in an SL 65 AMG He was born blind!
Hein Wagner, from Cape Town, South Africa, in search of an extreme adventure has successfully broken his own world land speed record by driving at 322.5 km/h – in the dark. He was born blind, but that never stopped him from going after things that the rest of us wouldn’t even attempt, which includes completing a cycle race and participating in a yacht race from Cape-to-Rio.

In 2005, Wagner set a top of 269 km/h while driving a Masarati, but this time, he was going to set the bar even higher. For this, he got himself the all new Mercedes-Benz SL 65 Black Series, with a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine, pumping out 661 HP and 738 lb-ft torque. Mr Wagner was accompanied by his navigator, Ray Wakefield, who helped him sprint down the Upington airport in the Northern Cape and achieve a top speed of 322.5 km/h before coming to a safe stop.

1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing in Camo

sl gullwing nigo 540x405 1954 Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing in Camo
Nigo, owner of Japanese fashion house ‘A Bathing Ape’, has put a modern twist to a classic Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, giving it a BAPE camouflage. Word on the street (interweb) is that he had AMG custom build the 1954 SL with custom interior and even install a new 6.0L V8 engine. While Nigo is famous for collecting exotic cars and turning them into something one has never seen before (like a Bugatti Veyron with pink camo) this was certainly an even bigger undertaking, as MB’s own tuner company pitched in.

AMG once again provides the Official F1 Safety and Medical Car

SL 63 AMG - Official F-1 Safety car
As you might have seen this weekend at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, The SL 63 AMG, as the Official F1 Safety Car, and the C 63 AMG Estate, as the Official F1 Medical Car, are to continue to help ensure maximum safety, this time for the 2009 Formula 1 season. AMG, the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz, will be on duty with the two specially prepared high-performance vehicles at all 17 of the new season’s Formula 1 races. The specialists from the AMG PERFORMANCE STUDIO are responsible for the development, production and servicing of the vehicles.

The Official F1 Safety Car is always deployed whenever the safety of a race is threatened by accidents, adverse weather conditions or other hazardous situations. Sitting behind the wheel of the exceptional SL 63 AMG will be Bernd Maylà¤nder (Germany, 37 years of age). After receiving instructions from the race management, the former DTM driver must go to the head of the Formula 1 field and safely guide the world’s fastest racing drivers around the circuit. Fast lap times are a must for the Safety Car, because otherwise the Formula 1 engines would overheat – and their tyres and brakes would also cool down excessively.
