Damon Hill Bets on Nico Rosberg in 2016 F1 Season

Nico Rosberg has consistently trailed behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton in the Formula One Drivers’ Championship. With Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team bagging both the Constructors’ and the Drivers’ Championships back-to-back from 2014 to 2015, Rosberg always fell second in the rankings. In the interview of Damon Hill with Sky Sports, he thinks the failures of Rosberg since Mercedes’ dominance in the sport will make him a more formidable challenger in the 2016 season. The former world champion likened his experiences with that of Rosberg. Hill recalled his days in Williams when he always finished second in the standings against Benetton’s Michael Schumacher in 1994 and 1995. Then in 1996, he suddenly broke… Continue Reading »

F1: Red Bull’s Horner says Hamilton was ‘desperate’ for a Red Bull seat in 2013

There’s still quite a bit of time before the 2016 Formula One season gets underway, but Christian Horner is already stirring the pot a bit. According to the Red Bull team principal, Lewis Hamilton was ‘desperate’ to race with Red Bull after he parted ways with McLaren in 2012 and before the then-surprise announcement that he would be signing with the Mercedes F1 team. Horner said that Hamilton had approached Red Bull twice about a prospective race seat for 2013. However, Horner felt that there was no way to accommodate Hamilton while the team still had Sebastian Vettel, a rising star in the F1 ranks. By 2012, Vettel had run off with… Continue Reading »

Wolff Will Let Hamilton and Rosberg Out of Their Leash in 2016

In the recent interview of Mercedes-AMG Petronas boss Toto Wolff, he admitted that his team’s continuous dominance in Formula One might hurt the sport in the long run. Therefore, he is considering giving Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg more freedom in the races. According to Crash.net, citing a report from the Daily Mail newspaper, he said the ongoing dominance of Mercedes in F1 would diminish the interest of the fans as it would lose the sport’s element of unpredictability. He even made Star Wars references in illustrating the resulting scenario. Quoting his interview features in the source, the motorsport director of Mercedes stated, “Our dominance is bad for F1. Is Nico Rosberg Getting a Contract Extension?

Nico Rosberg’s contract will only cover up to the 2016 Formula One season. When Speed Week asked whether the driver will get an extension with the team, Mercedes-AMG Petronas boss Toto Wolff said they won’t negotiate with him until summer. Rosberg has consistently trailed Lewis Hamilton in F1 Drivers’ Rankings since 2014. From that period until the season that just ended, he bagged the second position in the standings. His performance with his partner was instrumental in bringing their team a back-t0-back Constructors’ Championship in the sport too. However, Rosberg’s intense rivalry with Hamilton on the tracks led to Wolff warning them about a possible change in the team’s drivers lineup. It should be noted… Continue Reading »
