dsc008280014 448x336 Salão Automóvel de Portugal: Mercedes Benz and Smart

As promised, Benzinsider was at the Salà£o Automà³vel de Portugal and we have lots of pictures for you. Mercedes-Benz and Smart presented the visitors with some serious machines. As we posted earlier, there was the SLR 722, the C Class DTM, the CLS 63 AMG and many more. There were really no new models (no GLK) but there were the refreshed versions for the European markets (A, B, SL, SLK). It was a great event!

New two wheel Mercedes-Benz: the Trailblazer

638295 1142836 5344 4008 08c313 040002 448x336 New two wheel Mercedes Benz: the Trailblazer

For those who can’t be away from their MB for too long, here is something to use on your weekend rides: the new MB Bike Trailblazer. This all-mountain bike looks very nice and features very high quality components. I wouldn’t give it full use because I only ride my bike on small weekend cross-country rides, but professional bikes riders may think differently. I also don’t see myself paying 2,790€ for a bike (yes, the price is 2,790€…) but I know that’s not even much for top bike. And is a small price to pay for a MB :) But, really, the bike is good and beautiful!

Mercedes-Benz A-Class Restyling

634895_1136344_4992_3328_08c176_0070005.jpg

Yet another MB to get redesigned. This time the “european” A-Class. It will premiere at the Auto Mobil International motor show in Leipzig from 5th – 13th of April. The new A 150 and A 170 features BlueEFFICIENCY and ECO start/stop technology. There will be a new A 160 CDI (diesel) with a BlueEFFICIENCY package that allows this friendly compact to reduce fuel consumption to just 4,5 liter per 100 kilometres. When will this car start to make sense in the US and Canada?

Mercedes-Benz B-Class Facelifted

632625_1132006_4992_3328_08c183_040014.jpg

Ok, so the B-Class is not exactly MB’s flagship model and is not available in the US, but still, the Sport Tourer has sold about 325,000 units since 2005. As Mercedes apparently is updating the majority of their cars, its time for a refresh. On the outside you will find a newly styled hood, grille, front bumper, high-brilliance tail lights and rear bumper. Major innovation is the new B 170 NGT BlueEfficiency. It features an entirely new natural gas powered engine and is capable of running on both natural gas and premium grade petrol. It delivers 85 kW/116 hp, the same as the petrol powered version. It can go about 1,000 km without refueling. The rest of the lineup is the B150 (95 hp), B180 CDI (109 hp), B200 CDI (140 hp), B170 (116 hp), B200 (136 hp) and B200 Turbo (193 hp).

632105_1130854_4992_3328_07c2540_070013.jpg

Well, well… you thought that was it? The 2008 new-generation premieres were over? Well, no. After the SLK, the CLS and finally the SL, here’s when Mercedes unveils the new-generation M-Class. Apparently is not much more than a facelift, as there are no engine changes, and the major improvements are equippment and feature related. Naturally, fuel efficiency was also improved with consumption down by 0.4 liters per 100 kilometers, compared to the equivalent predecessor. Now, was this the last new-generation premiere? Or are there more to come in the near future…?

Still not expected until sometime before summer 2009, the new Mercedes CLK is already in testing. It was caught in Gernamy and in Sweden. According to WorldCarFans, it should have three different engine choices: a V6 with 272hp, a V8 with 388hp and an AMG version with 503hp. There may also be more engines including diesel versions for some markets (mostly Europe).
