This August, smart times 2013 Heads to Lucerne

We’re only two months away from the big smart community gathering, as ‘smart times 2013’ is right around the corner. This year, the worldwide fan gathering will take place on Lake Lucerne’s south bank, with the Alps towering in the background. Mercedes-Benz Gets Strong Sales in Canada Last Month

Today, Mercedes-Benz Canada released its sales report for the month of May. So far, it showed a strong performance of the brand in the country. According to Canada Newswire, a grand total of 3,300 Mercedes-Benz, Sprinter and Smart cars were sold last month in Canada. This year marks a total of 14,028 units sold via the MB Canadian retail network alone. There was a recorded figure of 2,820 units retailed for the passenger cars luxury light trucks sold in the country. The breakdown is as follows: 1,618 passenger car units were sold while the luxury light truck’s side accounted for the remaining 1,202. Mercedes-Benz and Toyota Share Their Views on the Tesla Brand

Tesla surely had a rocky year in 2008 wherein the company had trouble with its resources. In the account of Elon Musk, the company’s Chief Executive, during his interview with Forbes, the problem was such that the company nearly closed down and he had to spend all his personal reserve in an effort to save it. But thanks to a timely investment by Daimler, by pouring $50 million into the company, it was able to support its operations. It seems there’s no stopping car2go’s expansion, especially across North America. The city of Denver, Colorado is set to launch its own car2go carsharing service on June 8, making it the tenth city in America with said service. The launch network in Denver will come with 300 units of the car2go edition smart fortwo, and will be available for rental across the 42-square-mile Denver Home Area. London car2go to Expand Business Area in June

Car-sharing service car2go is set to expand its London business area come June, with the  new business area covering 100 square miles to take effect in a few days. The London car2go service launched in December of last year, in Islington as well as Sutton. The service has expanded from the initial two boroughs to include large areas. There’s Croydon, Kingston, Raynes Park, Richmond, South Lambeth, Southwark, and Wimbledon. The service, however, will be suspended in Newham in order to focus on higher demand in other areas within London. The new business area will have 500 of these smart vehicles available on demand. Mercedes-Benz USA Names Webster New smart GM on Top of Other Moves

Mercedes-Benz USA has just named previous pre-owned and fleet ops general manager Mark Webster as the new overall smart GM, replacing Tracey Matura, who then moves on to Chicago to become the GM for the central region. The shuffling becomes official on May 1. “Leveraging talent is a great way to drive a company’s corporate culture,” said MBUSA president and CEO Steve Cannon. He added that he expects “fresh perspectives” and skill sets to help the company sustain the  momentum it’s enjoying right now. There’s a domino effect, of course.
