The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake model has been spotted in the wild, practically without any camouflage to mask the car’s design from the public. It appears very much like the non-AMG version that was spotted a while back at the Nurburgring. Still, we all know that what’s most important about this variant is the 5.5L twin-turbo V8 engine beneath its hood.

With this surprise appearance of the upcoming CLS 63, people can expect only minor cosmetic revisions on the final model that reaches showrooms. It’s got the CLS line’s characteristic flair, with its wide wheel arches, quad exhausts, aggressive bumper design up front, and large alloy wheels.

The AMG-tuned version of the CLS carries only a single engine option, the aforementioned 5.5-liter V8, which is said to go for 518 horsepower and rear-wheel torque of around 516 lb.-ft. There’s an optional package that boosts these figures to 550 horsepower and 590 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 2013 CLS Shooting Brake models should be in showrooms by the end of the year. By then, we’ll likely get word on yet another Shooting Brake model rumored to be in development—one that’s based on the smaller BLS coupe and is likely to slotted as a 2014 model.

With the race starting on April 29, Mercedes-Benz has changed the DTM car to the 517HP producing coupe, making it the mightiest C-Class ever. But it is not only a power car, as mentioned, it is a safe car. With the changes on the DTM regulations made and decided by the German Motorsport Association, more safety features has been added to ensure compliance.

The C63 AMG Black Series Coupe was driven around the track for a long time to determine its conditions and its adaptability to extreme weather conditions and accidents. With the well-being of the driver, spectators and marshals in mind, there was no other way to do it. Another notable safety detail in the car are the LED lights: GREEN and ORANGE. Two green lights in the center is lighted while the race is taking place and permanent green light is a signal that the other DTM race cars can overtake it. Meanwhile, the orange lights flashing on the outer light bar means that other cars cannot overtake.

Under the hood, the AMG car 6.3 liter V8 engine that produces a maximum torque of 620 Newton meters and 517Hp. It accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 4.2 seconds, with top speed of 300 km/h. To make it more exciting and fun, the car has a silencer that produces a V8 sound. Moreover, the coupe is equipped with the AMG SPEED SHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission that has RECE START function, intermediate gas and four driving modes that helps in rapid gear changes.

Since the new policy allows wider tires, the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Black Series has Dunlop Sport Maxx Race tires measuring 255/35 R 19 in front, 285/30 R 19 at the back wrapped around a matte black painted AMG wheels.

Inside, the car is no different than its production counterpart, although some has been altered in order to meet the guidelines of the race. For example, four point belts are used, instead of the normal seat belts. A radio system and a TV monitor are also inside to help the driver during the race. The dash is also slightly different, with more buttons and flashing lights to help in the operation of the light beams and the LED flashing lights on top of the car.

First Stand Alone AMG Performance Center Now in Beijing

Stand Alone AMG Performance Center Now in Beijing First Stand Alone AMG Performance Center Now in Beijing

Unlike AMG stores in 18 other countries, the new AMG Performance Center in Beijing is a stand-alone one, not the kind where the shop is inside a Mercedes-Benz shop.

It is in a prime location called Sanlitun Village North, a huge mall in the center of the Chinese capital. The store is no different than all the other locations where the fast car is being showcased as it is also designed with technology and dynamism in mind.

Ola Kallenius, CEO of Mercedes AMG GmbH said, “From the new AMG Performance Centers in Beijing, we expect an attractive approach and support of existing and potential customers AMG. Here in the Sanlitun Village North we have a top location that can hit hard in the existing and prospective customers our brand claim of driving performance. The new store has a role model for future “stand alone” Performance Centers in other cities that are already being planned.”

G63 AMG And G65 AMG Unleashed On The World

2048 12c380 011 597x397 G63 AMG And G65 AMG Unleashed On The WorldAt first glance, calling the latest G63 AMG and its big brother (the G65 AMG) new seems silly, given that the G-Class can be described as a venerable, even evergreen model in light of its continued production in the face of newer designs. But the G-Class exudes an aura of ruggedness and dependability that few vehicles, Mercedes or not, can match. Continuous improvements to the looks, interior and powertrain of the G-Class has resulted in a vehicle that is far from what the original designers envisioned.

Take as an example the new G63. Its drivetrain is adapted from the latest iteration of the ML63, which means it has AMG’s 7G-Tronic automatic transmission plus ESP, Mercedes’ excellent version of traction control. The heart of the G63 is AMG’s twin turbo V8 that punches out more than 540 horsepower. Even the jaded cannot fault that figure. And lest you imagine that the G63 is just all brawn, consider that it now rides on newly-designed 20-inch wheels with recalibrated suspension settings to reduce NVH levels. Yet it still maintains the rugged dependability the G-Class has become known for.

Inside, new instrument panel and state-of-the-art infotainment and assist systems greet the driver, complete with a TFT display panel. And apart from the standard leather trim, the G63 can be ordered with carbon fiber touches to lend it a more distinctive look.

For those who think that 540 horsepower is just adequate for this land bruiser, the truly exclusive-oriented can opt for the G65, which features a monstrous V12 fitted with twin turbochargers. With more than 610 horsepower to throw around, this animal of an engine should give the latest AMG G-Class the grunt to conquer any obstacle.

AMG and Ducati Partnership Ends

After Audi announced that they have acquired Ducati from Investindustrial Group, AMG also released a short statement that it has ended its “marketing cooperation” with the motorcycle brand. This is not surprising, since Audi is a competitor of Mercedes-Benz.

Some blogs speculated that Mercedes-Benz AMG bid to buy Ducati, however, the three-star brand cleared that it was never part of their plans, saying “Our focus lies clearly in developing and producing premium performance cars and we will be concentrating all our energy on this.”

Here’s AMG’s official and brief statement:

Since the end of 2010 a successful marketing cooperation has existed between AMG and Ducati. The company takeover by a rival car manufacturer has understandably resulted in the end of any further collaboration. The takeover of Ducati was never our aim – our focus lies clearly in developing and producing premium performance cars and we will be concentrating all our energy on this.
