Metrobus project in Istanbul wins a USA award

The Metrobus project of the Istanbul administration authority was recently given an award during the presentation of the Sustainable Transport Awards in Washington D.C. This award is presented to projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the quality of life in the inner areas of major cities worldwide. The Mercedes-Benz CapaCity impressively demonstrates the attractiveness and cost-effectiveness of the bus as a transport system. As a high-capacity vehicle not restricted to on-rail operation, it combines the advantages of a bus, i.e. great flexibility and high cost-effectiveness, with attributes of a tram system such as a high passenger capacity.

Mercedes-Benz working on a SLK Gullwing?

Is Mercedes-Benz prepping a new low-end Gullwing? Well according to AutoExpress, Mercedes has plans to bring a new SLK Gullwing to the masses, which may look very similar to its bigger brother, the SLC Gullwing. Besides having some amazing gullwing doors, and draw inspiration from the legendary 300SL, it is also supposed to be hybrid. With some very muscular lines, it will be a big change compared to the current SLK (which women love to drive). The hood is much longer and due to the gullwing doors, the side sills will be much higher than on normal cars. The designers actually took that weakness and turned it into an opportunity…. Fresh spy shots of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLC

New spy shots have emerged of the much rumored Mercedes-Benz SLC supercar, which is said to replace the already legendary SLR. AutoWeek has published pictures of a test mule making rounds on a track, but heavily masked with plastic and tape. Rumor has it that the codenamed C197 will have a AMG V8 with 580 to 600hp and go from 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds. Even with a V8, the supercar should be on par if not better than the outgoing SLR, due to its weight advantage, mostly because aluminum and carbon fiber will be used in the construction of the frame and body.

Carlsson presents the CK63 RS

There are lots of Mercedes-Benz specialized tuners out there, but only some have the know-how and the unique touch to actually make the car better than the original. Carlsson is definitely one of the few good ones, and the CK 63 RS (aka SL63 AMG) shows it. Besides the cosmetic changes, the engineers were able to increase horsepower from 525 (386 kW) to 600 (441 kW). Carlsson has strapped on a new aerodynamic body kit as well as upgraded the interior by adding some unique leather upholstery. It takes the CK 63 RS only 4.1 seconds to get from 0 to 100 (0-62 mph), making it a half second faster… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz quality increasing, dealer profit decreasing

Mercedes-Benz dealerships have not only been hit hard by the slow car sales in recent months, they are also losing money in the service department. It seems that the increased Mercedes quality is finally paying off for consumers – not so much for dealers. Compared to 5 or 6 years ago, dealers were making record profit for servicing Mercedes vehicles, which cost Daimler millions in warranty cost. Ever since, Mercedes has pledged to increase quality and to bring consumers back the trust in the Mercedes brand. It’s great to see that people have less quality issues these days, and just one way to see this is the decrease in customers… Continue Reading »

BenzInsider visited the NAIAS

BenzInsider visited the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this year. The mood was quite different from years past – much more somber. The majority of the free food and lavish drinks dished out to us media had vanished – exception being the Mercedes Benz display. Irregardless of the recession, Mercedes showed their true luxurious style displaying vehicles like the 2010 E-Class, SLR Stirling Moss and the Blue Zero Concept alongside dishes you might see on Top Chef. Overall the show was big on “green” and minimial on flash. However we want to tip our fedora hat to the home town luxury car division; Cadillac! They skipped the superficial… Continue Reading »
