Lorinser tunes Mercedes Benz C-Class

The smart fortwo is America’s most environmental friendly car

The American environmental authority EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has put the smart fortwo at the top of its current list of the most economical cars without hybrid drive. The US authority confirms independent European studies that had already established the clever two-seater as the most economical car. In addition, the two-seater already exceeds the US standards for fleet consumption (CAFE = Corporate Average Fuel Economy) which are planned for 2020 and it has already been classified as an ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) in California. This of course is no surprise, as the European environmental agencies have established that years ago, but nevertheless, this is great news for smart.

Mercedes SLR Club Trophy 722 GT race footage

AutoMoto.TV has uploaded a short clip of the Mercedes SLR Club Trophy 722 GT. As you’ll see, the video shows the starting grid, as driver from various countries line up behind models holding their respective numbers. You can also enjoy a birds-eye view of the race thanks to a halicopter that captured some awesome footage – the video is after the break. Even with the helicopter noise, the sound of the 722’s can still be heard. Enjoy!

The smart fortwo is coming to Brazil in April 2009

The smart fortwo will be available in Brazil. This was announced by the company at the Sà£o Paulo Auto Show, where the two-seater celebrated its public debut. Thus, the smart brand is entering another automotive market following its successful launch in the USA. Over one million of the two-seaters have been produced since the introduction of the first generation in 1998; let’s see if they can sell another million in the coming years.

Daimler supports handicapped children in India

Daimler is supporting the Cleft Center that opened in Mumbai this spring with a donation of €50,000. The clinic performs operations and subsequent medical checkups on children with cleft lips, palates or jaws. The financial support from Daimler AG will make operations possible for 250 children in the Mumbai Cleft Center. We wish more companies would support clinics and children in need.

New Plant in Hungary: Home of the next-Gen A and B-Class

Rainer Schmückle, Chief Operating Officer of Mercedes-Benz Cars, and Gordon Bajnai, Hungarian Minister for National Development and Economy, signed the cooperation agreement for the construction of a new Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskem©t in presence of Ferenc Gyurcsà¡ny, Prime Minister of Hungary, and Dr. Gà¡bor Zombor, the Mayor of the city of Kecskem©t. Mercedes-Benz is building the plant in order to create additional production capacity in the compact car segment, where the model range will be expanded from two to four vehicles.
