Auto Zeitung: Next-Gen E-Class without camo (again)

While Autobild showed us the first official pictures of the next-gen E-Class without camo, Auto Zeitung (another German car magazine) has published pictures of what seems like a photo shoot for the next-gen E-Class. The image above looks very similar to what we saw just over a month ago, which only proves our point that the Autobild pictures are indeed authentic. The E-Class is scheduled for a possible Spring 2009 introduction, with a later release for the States. Check out a High-Res image of the spied camo-free next gen E-Class

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster 722 S

The new Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster 722 S opens up astonishing dimensions when it comes to open-top driving. Delivering 478 kW/650 hp, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a maximum speed of 335 km/h, this two-seater cabriolet surpasses the existing benchmark among open-top super sports cars – the SLR McLaren Roadster. Both vehicles feature a fully retractable folding soft top capable of withstanding the high speed and are made of carbon fiber. This endows both models with a very high degree of safety and extreme torsional stiffness. In addition to increased power, the new SLR McLaren Roadster 722 S features even more dynamic suspension tuning and… Continue Reading »

GLK Advertising: 180° from expected

During the run-up to the model’s market launch in October 2008, Mercedes-Benz is expanding its comprehensive marketing campaign for the GLK-Class to include print advertisements and television commercials. “Our print campaign and the TV spot focus on the typical characteristics of the GLK — the striking form and surprisingly different design,” says Dr. Olaf Gà¶ttgens, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars. “With the GLK we are providing a new opportunity for customers to enter the SUV world of our brand. Video: Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHYBRID

UnitedPicturesTV has posted a great video explaining how the new Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHybrid actually works. Besides being the first hybrid Mercedes on the market, the sedan allegedly gets around 30 mpg. It has a 3.5 liter gasoline engine (not sure why they badged it as a S400) coupled with a permanent magnet electric engine with a combined output of 299 horsepower.

Lewis Hamilton loses appeal in Paris Court

Lewis Hamilton and the McLaren Mercedes team were unable to overturn the penalty that was imposed by the stewards at Spa, which lead Hamilton to finish third. His arguments and those of McLaren were thrown out without even passing judgment on the detail if Hamilton drove fairly or not. The stewards in Belgium had imposed a “drive-through” penalty on Hamilton for gaining an advantage by cutting a chicane. The five judges at FIA International Court of Appeal hearing in Paris made it clear that this type of penalty, even applied retrospectively, cannot be appealed against. Well how about launching a process where these kinds of appeals CAN be appealed to… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz recalling 102,954 M-Class models in U.S.

Mercedes-Benz has recalled 102,954 sport utility vehicles because of a defect that could cause a loss of power steering. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Mercedes M-Class SUVs from model years 1998 to 2003 are affected by this recall. The problem is with a clamp used to secure a cooling hose for power-steering systems on the vehicles, which may be too weak and not able to hold it properly. An earlier recall did not sufficiently fix the problem. The recall is scheduled to begin in October.
