This classic clip really shows how the world and Top Gear reacted to the new car and it its numerous features that were not expected from the SL. Take a moment and watch the clip, you won’t regret it.

Deadly Car Accident in Malaysia

 Deadly Car Accident in Malaysia
Making the decision to post this story was very difficult for me, not because I don’t want to show a totally wrecked Mercedes, but because 3 people died in this accident. I received an email with the posted pictures and a small description of the accident. It seems the deadly crash happened in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) on August 9th after the driver lost control and hit a tree.

The moral of this story is to drive safely, no matter how many airbags and safety features, an accident that destroys the entire car will be deadly. So guys, drive safely.

Prodrive F1 Team Will Use Mercedes Engines in 2008

In Red Bull-Toro Rosso style, McLaren and F1′s twelfth team Prodrive next year could use essentially the same Formula One chassis.
Although news about David Richards’ incoming team has been sparing in recent times, it is reported this week that Prodrive is still on track to debut in Melbourne next March.
Specialist German magazine Auto Motor und Sport claims that with three substantial Prodrive sponsors now on board, McLaren is now working closely with Richards’ outfit to put together effectively a ‘B’ Mercedes-powered team.
To simplify the cross-over between the two teams, and because of time constraints, Prodrive is likely to run the 2008-specification MP4-23 single seater, probably with an identical Mercedes-Benz V8 power plant to its works sister, as the new privateer-friendly rules will probably allow.
Alongside McLaren test drivers Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett as possible Prodrive racers, meanwhile, is Paffett’s French-Canadian DTM colleague Bruno Spengler, the magazine added.

The Resurrection of the 300SL Gullwing in 2010

new 300sl gullwing side The Resurrection of the 300SL Gullwing in 2010
German finest car magazine, Auto Motor und Sport, is reporting that Mercedes is bringing back the legendary 300SL in the form of a car that will be based on the SL platform, will cost around €140,000 and €200,000 and will be injected with the newest AMG 6.2L V8 monster machine, boasting an impressive 620hp.

This of course is nothing new, we have learned about the plan to bring back the Gullwing last year, but one thing that has not crossed my mind is that the car being tested in the desert right now is possibly the new 300SL Gullwing. What we are calling the SLC right now, and seeing something that looks like a Dodge Viper on the spy shots, is probably the 300SL Gullwing.

I may be the only one claiming this, but if we look at the spy shots and these rendered images, we can definitely spot some similarities, such as the long hood, round headlights, and side air vents.

Mercedes the Most Expensive Car to Insure

sclassblack.thumbnail Mercedes the Most Expensive Car to Insure
Forbes has put together a list, as they always do, of the “Most Expensive Cars to Insure” and believe it or not, Mercedes-Benz has secured the top three positions on the list. The SL, S, and CL-Class have been classified as the most expensive production cars to insure. It is no surprise that a car with an MSRP of $135,400 and 5.5 liter V8 engine would have an insurance cost of $22,536 a year.

The same is true for the S Class, with an MSRP $123,888, it has an yearly insurance cost of $21,161. It is followed by the new CL, which costs $122,050, and has an insurance cost of $20,942.

This is certainly one of those, if you can’t afford the insurance then you certainly can’t afford the car, or the other way around.
