Looking back at the new Smart Fortwo

112339107c214_029__mid.jpg
Should an icon like the smart fortwo undergo further development at all? The answer is “yes” – indeed, this is a must. For the new smart fortwo it was important to strike a balance between retaining the strengths of the previous model on the one hand and venturing new ideas on the other hand.

The past ten years have seen great changes to the terms of reference. The more than 770,000 smart fortwo customers influenced the requirements for the successor model. However, so did new legal requirements, especially those for the American market.

The brand, at its youthful age of just eight, also stakes out clear terms of reference for the design. It was important to embody innovation, functionality and joie de vivre – the core values of smart – in the second smart fortwo generation just as these were anchored in the first generation.

TAG Heuer SLR for Mercedes Benz Fans

112422007a220__mid.jpg
I posted a video a month or so ago about the TAG Heuer watch with a distinct Mercedes SLR look. The latest product of a long and fruitful partnership between Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH and the Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer, the new “TAG Heuer SLR for Mercedes-Benz” automatic chronograph combines the classical art of watchmaking with superior technology and exclusivity. The third chronograph to emerge from this collaboration will be available as from the summer in a limited edition of 3,500 pieces. The special hallmarks of this high-tech timepiece include the arrangement of the chronograph’s buttons beside the dial, echoing the layout of the shift buttons on the automatic transmission selector lever in the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren super sports car.

Top Gear: Richard Hammond Crash

This is it.; they finally show the Hammond crash on Top Gear more than 2 months after it happend. He did three runs, and let me tell you that I was scared on everyone of them in anticipation of the crash. It is a weired feeling watching a video that could have killed him, and ironically that is what he jokes about during the taping of the crash.

Creative ad-parody against Mercedes

o_bund-mercedes-1gr.jpg
These ads are certainly not helping the three companies by me showing them to you, but I have to say that they are very interesting and very funny in some way, maybe that is just me. If you don’t get the point with the two pictures here, then let me explain. Germany’s BUND is an earth friendly group, similar to Greenpeace here or some other ones, which are trying to get car manufacturers to stop just focusing making the car faster and more luxuries, but also focus at making it more earth friendly. BUND feels that Mercedes, BMW and VW have not done that with their car, which is why they are running these ads now. The ads are ad-parodies, which is changing the original car manufacturer’s ad copy into saying something else. Usually people do that to make it funny, but they are using it against the car companies. It doesn’t matter if you agree or disagree with their cause, the ads are well done and deserve praise for just that. Check out the rest by clicking more.

The new rage: Glass wheels

s550_sky7.jpg
We’ve had our fair share of crazy and useless crap on the site, but here is another one that will surely trump those that have come before it. For those stinking rich bastards out there, but also for those that love dreaming at owning something like this, I present to you the glass rims. You’ve seen chrome and aluminum wheels, but I bet this is the first time you’ve seen these. I have to say that they look amazing on a car, absolutely amazing, and with a price tag of above 5k per wheel, these surely should only be put on cars above $100,000. The only problem with these is that the cleaning will be ridiculously difficult. Of course they aren’t glass, but some kind of a plastic material; no idea on who makes them, but I am sure someone will find out.

Update: We know much more about the “Glass” wheels now; it seems that the wheels are made by Forgiato and are the Radurra series. Check out more pictures below or head over to their website. Thank you Cdoke.

Mercedes Advertising: The Sprinter

mercedes-sprinter-ad.jpg
A very creative way to promote a very “boring” product. I mean how depressing is it for the guy who gets the ‘Sprinter’ project and his colleague get an S-Class as project. It seems that Marius Rosu, who created this, has a very creative mind and he should get credit for that. The image shows how similar to Noah’s Arc, the Sprinter would be able to hold a pair of every animal to save the planet. Brilliant!

Fortune’s Sue Callaway takes the Maybach Exelero for a spin

image01.jpg
Fortune’s Sue Callaway is one of the luckiest people in the world; she got to drive the Maybach Exelero on its last U.S. lap. While I don’t see why she got the car instead someone that actually knows cars, it seems that this was only done for publicity and not to showcase the car. This is definitely one amazing car that someone with a deep pocket could purchase – an $8 million dollar pocket. Head over to CNN to check out the video.
