Kleeman Restores SLS AMG To King Of The Hill Status

Now that Mercedes has released S-Model variants for the E- and S-Class, the SLS AMG has, for now, been left stranded in terms of horsepower bragging rights. As we all know, power isn’t everything when it comes to evaluating sports car performance, but… To the rescue comes Kleeman, a tuner who has developed a supercharger kit for the SLS AMG. Installing this supercharger kit will give an SLS AMG 762 horsepower, which puts an SLS back on top as king of the hill. Of course, with the precise metering the M159 engine requires, one can’t just remove the turbos, slap on the supercharger and be done with it. Apart from… Continue Reading »

E63 AMG S-Model Seen In Barcelona

As you’ll see in gallery, Barcelona played host recently not to a sporting event but to a couple of brawny Germans, specifically a pair of strapping E63 AMG S-Models. In a game of one-upmanship, Mercedes released the S-Models to silence would-be challengers to the “normal” AMG cars. As if a 560 horsepower E-class sedan would be too boring. Nevertheless, the E63 AMG S-Model boasts of 585 horsepower, so the benchmark that is (was?) the M5 really has its work cut out for it. Where the the M5 used to be the brawny upstart, it seems that the Mercedes-AMG now has the bigger cudgel, and the design of the E63 AMG… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Provides 70 Vehicles For Latest Die Hard Movie

Fans of a certain, um, demographic, will remember with fondness the Die Hard series of movies starring a supercop portrayed by Bruce Willis. Aging though he is , Bruce Willis still does blockbuster action movies, and this latest installment in the series is no exception. What will be noticeable is the preponderance of Mercedes vehicles our hero will be using throughout the movie, from the Mercedes C-Class to Zetros trucks. In between, we’ll see ML-Class SUVs and like Willis himself, ageless Unimogs and G-Wagens. It’s no secret that car manufacturers nowadays use blockbuster movies as a vehicle for advertising their products. In the latest Die Hard, Mercedes provided 70 assorted… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Teasing CLA For The Superbowl

Ok, so Superbowl 47 is practically here, and corporate advertisers have reserved their slots for those all-important commercials. Mercedes has found value in its Superbowl placements and it has embraced social media in a big way, using these sites to whet the public’s appetite on upcoming models. Late last year, BenzInsider did a post on a shoot that the company was doing in anticipation of this year’s Superbowl. Now that the ads are wrapped and ready, Mercedes has begun teasing a few clips on YouTube to whip MB fans into a frenzy for the CLA, which seems to be the focus for Mercedes this year. The first clip, called Diner,… Continue Reading »

Carlsson Develops Hillclimb SLK For Meisel Motorsport

Carlsson is better known as a tuning firm that produces high-end performance and aesthetic kits for Mercedes luxury sedans. With their announcement of a racer specially developed for international hillclimbs, Carlsson is making it known that they are in the business of developing hardcore race cars too. As the renderings show, the basis for the car will be a Mercedes SLK, hence the company moniker for it as the Carlsson SLK 340. Unlike today’s Mercedes sedans that don’t reflect engine sizes by their badges anymore, the SLK 340 does displace 3.4 liters from its V8. Said V8 will be developing 610 horsepower and around 317 lb-ft of torque. Mated to… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Provides Fuel Cell Citaros For Davos Delegates

At the World Economic Forum currently being held in its traditional venue in Davos, Switzerland, Mercedes is providing two Citaro buses fueled by fuel-cell technology. As any world citizen knows, unpredictable world events have a way of reaching into the pockets of consumers everywhere, so providing alternative fuel buses to these economic leaders is a nice reminder of the possibilities of alternative technologies. The fuel-cell buses are not unique for this event, as the provider of the two shuttle buses, PostAuto Schweiz AG, has been running 5 fuel-cell Mercedes Citaros since 2011. These Citaros see in regular use on PostAuto  service routes in and around the Aargau canton of Brugg…. Continue Reading »

Still A Long Wait For Those Expecting An S-Class 4-Door Convertible

While the Ocean Drive concept from 2007 gave glimpses of what it would be like to drive around in a four-door S-Class convertible, it seems that such a car will remain exactly that, a concept.  We now know that the upcoming S-Class will have a convertible in its lineup, although it will be a 2-door version. However, a 4-door convertible is not in the works for now because as anyone beholden to cars knows, concept to showroom is a far step, involving engineering, market studies, safety tests, etcetera, etcetera. In the case of a four-door convertible for the soon-to-be-released S-Class, it seems that it will be the engineering challenge that… Continue Reading »
