SL65 Black Series And Nissan GT-R Mix It Up

In response to a video posted here showing a straight line race between an 850hp Nissan GT-R and an SL65 AMG Black Series, we present two unmodified examples of the two. With more than a 100-horsepower difference between the GT-R and the SL65 AMG Black Series, there are no prizes for guessing who won. Below is a video of two stock examples of these cars on another course but using the same basic format.

As all enthusiasts know, the GT-R has become the benchmark for affordable performance cars and stock, it offers levels of performance that few cars can match. Although its price of admission is cheap, the Nissan’s maintenance requirements approach those of exotic cars. But as with most Japanese cars, even the Nissan GT-R comes off a mass production line, which cannot be said for the Black Series cars from AMG. Despite looking like a porky old geezer’s car, this SL65 AMG Black Series matches the all-wheel drive GT-R’s acceleration and walks away from there.

It’s a white and wintry Christmas in many parts of the world but Mercedes-Benz is in a black mood. A Black Series mood, that is. Following the media campaign for the C63 AMG Black Series coupe and the announcement of the SLS Black Series in its coupe and roadster version comes the confirmation that a Black Series C63 AMG Estate is in the works. There is a certain subset of car enthusiasts that just go gaga over fast estates and Mercedes certainly won’t deny these enthusiastic individuals the chance to own a Black Series estate.

Since the C63 Black Series estate won’t be released til the middle of next year at the earliest, those car enthusiasts pining for that super wagon will have to content themselves with a rendering from Theophilus Chin, who has come up with a version that definitely has our mouths watering. The front of the car is certainly consistent with the official images of the Black Series coupe and the rest of the rendering continues with what AMG designers would probably pen to make an aggressive-looking Black Series estate. It would also be safe to assume that the estate will have the 517 horsepower/7-speed drivetrain of the other C63 Black Series variants, which would mean a 0-60 mph time of around 4 seconds.

C63 AMG Black Series Tackles Laguna Seca

It seems that Mercedes is bent on dethroning the BMW M3 as the car of choice for sporty coupes. This video follows the  announcement of the C63 AMG Black Series’ outstanding time at the Nurburgring, where it bested the current M3 GTS’s time by 2 seconds. In that hot lap at the Ring, the C63 Black Series was also only short of the Porsche 911 Carrera S’ time by 2 seconds.  With its 517 horsepower 6.2 liter V8, this Black Series coupe has got the motivation and 7-speed dual-clutch transmission it needs to run with the best.

Following the Nurburgring stint, Mercedes has filmed this Diamond White C63 AMG Black Series at Laguna Seca, another well-known driver’s track with its famous vertigo-inducing Corkscrew. Follow us as we watch the video of this super coupe tackling another difficult course with aplomb.

Call it marketing or just plain pride in achieving it, but Mercedes-Benz has announced that its C63 AMG Black Series has put in a time at the Nurburgring that has made sports car aficionados around the world sit up and take notice. We know that the Black Series cars represent hardcore performance from the AMG division of the German carmaker. Just how hardcore is amply illustrated by the fact the there is a difference of about 15 seconds in the Ring time between the C63 AMG and the C63 AMG Black Series.

The “normal” C63 AMG has lapped the Nurburgring at 8:01. The C63 AMG Black Series recently placed itself in the limelight with an outstanding time of 7:46. Normally, you won’t Mercedes-Benz trading such times as other manufacturers are wont to do. But when your product’s time beats that of the highly regarded BMW M3 GTS and is just a couple of seconds shy of a Porsche 911 Carrera S, then it’s only proper that Mercedes trumpets the awesome performance of its C63 AMG Black Series coupe.
