The Mercedes W06 May Look the Same But Completely Different Within

When the new Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One car was unveiled in Jerez, it was quite difficult to point out what was exactly different from it compared to its predecessor. The Mercedes W06 or the new Silver Arrow simply looked like it was the identical twin of the W05, which grabbed the F1 Constructors’ Championship last year. Only a very close examination would show little changes within the aero components of the new race car. However, Mercedes engineering director Aldo Costa revealed during an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport that there’s more to it. While he admitted that the Mercedes W06 definitely appeared to have sprouted or evolved directly from the W05 when observed… Continue Reading »

Lowe: Do Not Underestimate Hamilton and Rosberg

Paddy Lowe, the technical chief at Mercedes AMG Petronas, stated that fans should not underestimate Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg because of the superiority shown by their cars this Formula One season. He said the lack of mistakes made by Hamilton and Rosberg got them to where they are now in both the drivers and teams standings. Lowe mentioned that the nine wins, including six one-two victories and 10 out 11 pole qualifications achieved by his drivers, are not only indications of their superb W05’s, but they also reflect the skills of the team’s drivers. The Mercedes technical chief recalled that Hamilton and Rosberg displayed a very low error rate since the start of the 2014… Continue Reading »

Rosberg Wins in Monaco Grand Prix and Gets Back Number One Position

Following a rather controversial qualifying race leading to Monaco Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg reached the checkered flag first this Sunday’s race. His victory allowed him to get back his number-one position in the Formula One drivers’ standings, which was temporarily taken away by his teammate Lewis Hamilton in Spain. The German was able to outlast his Briton teammate by 9.2 seconds as he maintained his advantage over his pole position. It should be noted as well that Hamilton has been complaining about his partially impaired vision during the race that was apparently caused by a dirt in his eye. The two W05 cars were nearly inseparable during the early stages… Continue Reading »

Megaphone Exhaust Attached to the Rear End of the W05

The implementation of the new engine regulations definitely changed the landscape of the Formula One races this year. The evolution of the sport has particularly benefited Mercedes AMG Petronas, which resulted into a series of victories for the team. However, one major setback seen by fans, even by F1 President and CEO Bernie Ecclestone, in the implementation of the new engine rules was the lack of noise of the cars. Ecclestone mentioned that he was “horrified” by the muffled sound of the race cars. As a result, Mercedes developed a solution to the issue. Last week, it announced its new prototype that will address the call for more tailpipe noise. When rumors… Continue Reading »

Lewis Hamilton Dominates Practices in Spain

A majority of Formula One analysts agreed that Lewis Hamilton is looking at his best this season. A lot of them even predicted that the young Briton might recapture the title this 2014. Except the disappointing race of Lewis Hamilton in Australia, wherein he suffered technical problems with his W05; the former world champion has dominated every single race he completed in 2014. Nico Rosberg has also been impressive since the day one of the races by grabbing the first place in Australia and by maintaining a place next to his teammate in the succeeding events. Despite the prediction of critics, including BBC, that the next race may be won… Continue Reading »
