Mercedes-Benz Faces 300,000 Claims In the UK High Court Over Dieselgate Scandal

Mercedes-Benz continues to be haunted by its inclusion in the Dieselgate expose nearly eight years ago. The three-pointed star marque is once again under fire from 300,000 claims over its alleged use of cheat emissions software. This time, the battle lies at the London High Court. According to the allegations, Mercedes misled its customers regarding the emission compliance of its vehicles. They said that the German automaker had defeat devices or software installed in its vehicles to get lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) readings during tests. Trial Commences for Mercedes Over Dieselgate Scandal

Billions of fines and numerous recall later, the Dieselgate Scandal continues to haunt Mercedes-Benz up to this day. Last Tuesday, the trial for the class-action lawsuit against the automaker commenced in a German court. The lawsuit was filed by Germany’s largest consumer protection and advocacy group called Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband or VZBV. It alleged that the company used devices to manipulate the diesel emissions of its GLK and GLC SUV models to reflect lesser pollutant levels than they do in actual traffic conditions. Volkswagen Bluntly Criticizes the Mercedes-Benz X-Class

Volkswagen Australia once again takes a verbal jab at the Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup. Michael Bartsch, the head of the VW Group in Australia, believes they can do a better job than Mercedes. Bartsch’s interview featured in Motoring voices out the same sentiments raised last year by their head of corporate communications, Paul Pottinger. After the “Dieselgate” issue involving Volkswagen, a new report claimed that Mercedes-Benz also used software modifications to cheat its emission scores. The new Mercedes scandal was uncovered by U.S. investigators. According to Automotive News Europe, citing German paper Bild am Sonntag as a primary source, a new probe found that Mercedes uses an engine management function called “Slipguard”. Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, BMW Dragged in Animal Cruelty Controversy

A Netflix documentary alleged that German luxury car makers, including Mercedes-Benz, used monkeys to test the effects of their diesel engines in relation to health. The three-pointed star marque recently released a statement to distance themselves from the controversy. The show Dirty Money revealed that monkeys were placed in gas chambers while watching cartoons as diesel fumes were being directed to their enclosure through a series of tubes.
