What happens when you fuse the classic Mercedes-Benz 350 SL convertible from the ‘70s with our present tech? UK-based The SL Shop shows us the answer as they unveiled the electrified version of the vintage car christened as the SportLine Zero. The SL R107 is a rather boxy car but it carries with it a timeless beauty—being a convertible. The subject here possesses a gloss silver paint that gives the car a near-mint look. Its exterior is also highlighted by its strategically-placed body lines, chrome accents, and wheel hubs that put more visual emphasis in its styling. According to Auto Zeitung, Mechatronik is based in Pleidelsheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The company specializes in vintage cars and is known for its works with classic Mercedes vehicles. One of its projects involved a 70s W111 Coupe, which was restored to almost its original look when it rolled out from the production plant. Mechatronik was down to the detail on this one, but its mechanics have taken out its 3.5-liter V8 engine to replace it with a 5.5-liter V8 sourced from an SLK55 AMG. During… Continue Reading »

Nostalgia. Ah, that feeling we get when we watch a very old episode of some cartoon that defined our childhood. It is also that familiar feeling that captures us the moment we re-enter a place where our fondest memories are planted. Whatever defines your own personal feeling of nostalgia, you can always bet on possessing a certain feeling of satisfaction that makes you long for a time in the distant past. Mercedes-Benz Pays Homage to the E-Class

Mercedes-Benz recently paraded some of its classic and existing cars to pay tribute to the rich and colorful history of the E-Class. The event was held at the Sindelfingen plant of Mercedes in Germany where the E-Class models are produced. The “Mercedes-Benz E-Class” range name only officially surfaced in 1993. The E-Class badge was used in the facelifted version of the W124. However, the DNA of the car goes way back to 1953. In that era existed the Mercedes-Benz (W120) Ponton 180. It was a midsize sedan carrying a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. The car is characterized by its exotic look and a bit rounded frame as most of the ponton cars… Continue Reading »

1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster Fetches $11.77M in Auction

While previously considered as a potentially record-setting vintage car, the rare 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster owned by Prussian baroness Gisela von Krieger and her family still managed to snag a pretty sum. The vehicle’s final number at the Pebble Beach auction was $11.77 million. Gooding & Co. expected the vehicle to shatter the world record for a vehicle’s auction price, with the same auctioneer setting that figure—a cool $16.4 million—with the sale of a 1957 Testarossa last year. Those expectations are based on the rarity of this vintage Mercedes-Benz model, not to mention the fact that this Special Roadster was owned only by a couple of von Krieger nobility…. 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster a Contender to Set Auction Record

A rare 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster is set to go up for grabs at an auction by Gooding & Company, and many believe this rare car has what it takes to break the auction record for vehicles when it goes up for bidding at Pebble Beach, right after the Concours d’Elegance show. Some say that the vehicle could easily fetch $10 million, but there are also some who think it can go high enough to exceed the current vehicle auction price record of $16.4 million, which achieved in 2011 for a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa car that was used by the manufacturer’s team to compete at Le Mans….
