Mercedes-Benz Under Fire for Alleged Competition Violation

The UK’s Office of Fair Trading is probing Mercedes-Benz as well as five dealers in England, Wales, and Scotland that sell the Daimler marque’s trucks for alleged violations of competition law, occuring between 2007 and 2010. The allegations involve the sharing of sensitive commercial information as well as pricing coordination between and among the dealerships. “We have reason to believe that these dealers cooperated to limit competition in their areas,” said OFT senior director Ali Nikpay. The officer added that those involved will get “full opportunity to respond to our statement before we decide whether competition law has in fact been infringed.” Here’s more from the OFT statement: “The precise… Continue Reading »

Daimler Trucks NA Posts GHG 14 Compliance

As a Mercedes owner, you may not care about the excellent trucks that the Daimler group also offers around the world. But as tools of industry and commerce, trucks are indispensable. They also consume considerably more resources to operate in terms of tires, lubricants and fuel. So Daimler should justifiably be proud that the company’s trucks being sold in North America now have GHG14 certification. GHG 14 stands for Greenhouse Gas 2014, which is an EPA regulatory requirement for trucks which will be in force from 2014-2018. As its name implies, it aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for medium and heavy-duty trucks. Once fully implemented, the new GHG14 regulations… Continue Reading »

Daimler Trucks NA Delivers 1,000th Natural Gas Truck

Without much fanfare, Daimler Trucks in North America has been doing its share to promote fuel and emissions efficiency. It was only the announcement that the 1,000th Freightliner truck had been delivered that made us sit up and take notice. Notably, Daimler Trucks North America is the first commercial truck manufacturer to have been able to sustain such steady volume production. It’s indicative of the fact that the division’s customers have accepted natural gas as a viable and reliable substitute to the mainstream diesel fuel that normally powers such trucks.
