Mercedes S-Class And EQS Spied Testing New Autonomous Driving Tech

Mercedes-Benz started the year with a bang as it successfully gained approval to use its Level 3 autonomous driving technology on US roads. This makes the automaker the first in the world to achieve such a feat. Recently, the Mercedes S-Class and EQS were seen testing the feature further using LiDAR equipment which suggests that there’s likely more in store for their maker’s future self-driving cars. Mercedes-Benz Approved to Use Level 3 Autonomous Cars Anywhere in the US

Mercedes-Benz just technically won the race to bring Level 3 autonomous cars anywhere in the US. Recently, the automaker got its approval to roll out its Drive Pilot system in Nevada and is looking to get permission from California soon. While it should be noted that Waymo and Cruise have already integrated Level 4 autonomy in their ride-hailing services in the US, it comes with specific conditions that include operating only within a limited range for its service area. Despite not having a prototype car in the international car show, tech giants Apple and Google became the center of attention when it came to self-driving and electric cars, according to New York Times. The report claimed the mere knowledge that Apple had aggressively employed several hundred people to work in car designs has been putting big automakers on the edge… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz to ramp up activities on autonomous vehicle research and testing

Since September, Mercedes-Benz has been conducting tests on autonomously driving (self-driving) vehicles in California’s public roads. Now, the company is set to expand on its research activities and get more testing done, thanks to the ability to use the Concord Naval Weapons Station (CNWS) test bed site, which is the largest in the United States. The use of the CNWS site is essential in being able to test self-driving cars, providing a more secure method for testing, especially when it comes to particularly hazardous scenarios. “Taken in conjunction with the results of our test drives on public roads, these tests will help us with the ongoing development of our autonomous cars,”… Continue Reading »
