Renowned chipmaker Qualcomm Technologies Inc. is now expanding its reach from being a major presence in mobile computing devices to automobiles. Recently, it was revealed that Mercedes-Benz is now joining other automakers like BMW, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Renault, Volvo, and Stellantis in adopting the company’s new Snapdragon platform for vehicles. Future Mercedes-Benz models may feature the latest technology in the market with the strategic collaboration between Daimler and Qualcomm, as shown on a worldcarfans.com report. While the two companies did not reveal any details about the deal, they said the initial stage of the agreement will concentrate on wireless charging technology for use inside the vehicle, 3G/4G connectivity and the implementation of the Halo wireless electric vehicle charging technology of Qualcomm. The WEVC technology of Qualcomm makes it unnecessary to plug in electric and hybrid vehicles to charge them. Mercedes-Benz and Qualcomm are currently enjoying a fruitful partnership in Formula One. The tech firm is serving as the developer of Mercedes-AMG Petronas’ advanced communications array. Recently, Daimler AG announced that it has entered into another technology partnership with the telecom firm. According to Evo, the new deal centers on the development of wireless charging units for Mercedes electric vehicles. It should be noted that the two companies are no longer new to the idea of developing wireless chargers for EVs.
