Hamilton wins Italian Grand Prix; Rosberg 2nd for Mercedes one-two finish

Lewis Hamilton raced well and had great pace throughout the race to win the 2014 Italian Grand Prix, ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg for yet another Mercedes one-two finish. That’s a nice recovery after retiring from the last race, as Hamilton now gets back some lost ground thanks to the points differential. Hamilton cuts Rosberg’s lead in the drivers’ standings by 7 points, and the two are now separated by 22 points – 238 for Rosberg, and 216 for Hamilton with six races left on the calendar. The win gives Hamilton 28 for his F1 career, surpassing Sir Jackie Stewart’s total and putting Hamilton at seventh all-time. In addition, this makes… Continue Reading »

Italian GP: Mercedes’ Hamilton takes pole over Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton wants to bounce back, and what better way than by edging out Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 teammate Nico Rosberg for pole position? Hamilton will start at the head of the pack at the 2014 Italian Grand Prix, leading a Mercedes front row in what should be another tight contest between the two frontrunners. This is the 12th pole position for Mercedes out of the 13 races so far this season, although it’s been a while since Hamilton last sat in P1 to start a race. Rosberg had six out of the last seven pole positions, so it’s nice to see Hamilton get this pole, especially after the incident in Belgium that… Continue Reading »

Mercedes: Rosberg fined and punished for Belgian GP incident

According to an official statement from Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team, Nico Rosberg has been reprimanded for making contact with Lewis Hamilton’s car during the last race in Belgium. The feud between the Mercedes drivers have gone from tolerable to very public and outright disastrous, coming to a head during the Belgian Grand Prix a weekend ago when Rosberg made contact with Hamilton’s car, sending the Brit limping off to the pits thanks to an unfortunate puncture in his rear tyre and to an eventual race retirement. Here is an excerpt from the official, if vague, statement issued by Mercedes, which you can find here in full: Suitable disciplinary measures have been taken… Continue Reading »

Rosberg, Mercedes Settle for Second Place at Belgian Grand Prix

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo played the role of spoilsport, taking the title at the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix, as Mercedes AMG Petronas and Nico Rosberg had to settle for a second-place finish despite taking the pole position in qualifying. Even worse, contact between the two Mercedes cars early in the race resulted in a puncture in Lewis Hamilton’s ride, and the Brit eventually had to retire in lap 38. According to the commentators covering the race, Mercedes is pretty much pinning the blame for the incident on Rosberg, and most probably justifiably so. Still, it is a fairly common racing accident and there seemed to be nothing malicious about it. Regardless, this… Continue Reading »

Rosberg wins 2014 German Grand Prix

Nico Rosberg was true to form Sunday, as the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 driver secured his first-ever home race win and his fourth overall this season by taking the victory at the Hockenheimring. Teammate Lewis Hamilton was able to climb up all the way from P20 to start the race and vaulted up to a stellar and well-deserved podium finish. Sandwiched between the two Mercedes drivers was the Williams of Valtteri Bottas, who took his third-straight podium finish and his second-straight number-two finish following a stellar British Grand Prix and his impressive P3 in Austria. Despite the very impressive race driven by Hamilton, the Brit was seemingly not impressed. After all, anything… Continue Reading »

Mercedes’ Hamilton prevails in duel with Rosberg at the 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix

One second was the difference between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in a duel of the two Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 drivers at the 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix. It looks increasingly likely that we will see more of this head-to-head battle between the two teammates, but Mercedes has to be happy with the team’s second one-two finish in as many races. The win catapulted Mercedes into a 67-point lead at the top of the constructor’s championship, with Force India second and McLaren third. Sergio Perez took the third podium spot, finishing 23 seconds behind Rosberg. “I was on a real knife edge at the end,” said Hamilton after the race…. Continue Reading »
