F1: Rosberg upsets Hamilton to win 2015 Monaco GP

Nico Rosberg claimed his third-straight Monaco Grand Prix victory, after a questionable decision to pit Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton’s car when the safety car went out caused the latter to re-enter the race in third, putting the Briton’s dominating weekend to waste. This marks the second consecutive race win for Rosberg, while the team is now six out of six when it comes to getting both drivers to finish on the podium. Hamilton had once again built up a considerable gap from out in front, at least for a good first 64 laps until Max Verstappen’s accident prompted the safety car to come out. It was then that the decision was… Continue Reading »

F1: Mercedes opens 2015 season in front row at Australian GP

Lewis Hamilton will be opening his title defense in pole position as the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team claimed its first front-row lockout after Saturday’s qualifying session for the Australian Grand Prix. The 2014 drivers champion relatively easily beat out teammate Nico Rosberg, 1:26.327 to 1:26.921, in action reminiscent of the majority of last season’s give and take between the two in-team rivals. Behind the Mercedes cars, other teams were close in Q3. Felipe Massa (1:27.718) continued where he left off in 2014 with a great qualifying to start the new season. His Williams will start in P3, followed by the Ferrari cars. New Scuderia driver Sebastian Vettel looks like he’s back in form after a change… Continue Reading »

Mercedes’ Hamilton wins short-lived Japanese Grand Prix; Rosberg second in race marred by Bianchi crash

Mercedes AMG Petronas’ Lewis Hamilton took the victory as the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix ended prematurely, allowing the Brit to extend his lead over teammate Nico Rosberg, who started on pole but had to settle for second place. The race had to be ended early and the results backdated after a serious crash involving Jules Bianchi of Marussia and a JCB recovery vehicle, which was attending to an incident from the previous lap. “My thoughts are with my colleague,” Rosberg said. “They have given us some information and it seems very, very serious.” Typhoon Phanfone made its mark on the race early on, with standing water accumulating on the track and water splashing… Continue Reading »

Lewis Hamilton wins Singapore GP, grabs lead in title race from Mercedes teammate

The Singapore Grand Prix could prove to be the turning point in this year’s battle for the drivers’ championship. Lewis Hamilton held off a crowd near the end of the race to claim the victory while grabbing the lead in the standings, thanks largely to his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg failing to finish after many struggles even before the race began. Hamilton managed to get out of a tricky pit stop in lap 51 and avoided a tight battle for the win, especially with two Red Bull Racing cars right in the thick of it. He retakes the lead from Sebastian Vettel by lap 54 thanks to DRS, and eventually cruised to… Continue Reading »
