Mercedes-Benz Outs 2013 DTM Driver Lineup

After a rather disappointing finish to last year’s Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season, the Mercedes-Benz team is eager to get back on track for 2013, starting with the announcement for the driver lineups for this season. Mercedes-Benz will field a crop of six DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupe units this season, down a couple from last year’s eight C-Coupes across 4 sub-units. The six drivers are Gary Paffett, Daniel Juncadella, Roberto Merhi, Ralf Schumacher, Christian Vietoris, and Robert Wickens. Paffett was the frontrunner for much of the 2012 season, but Bruno Spengler managed to come from behind to take the title at the final race at Hockenheim. Paffett ended up conceding the… Continue Reading »

Paffett 2nd at Hockenheim, Fails to Clinch DTM Title

For all intents and purposes, the 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season was Gary Paffett’s to lose. He had been leading all the way since the first race and was in good position to win it all at the final race despite watching Bruno Spengler chip away at his lead following dismal performances after the halftime break of the season. Well, Spengler was able to snatch the win—and the 2012 DTM driver’s championship as well—at Hockenheimring. DTM follows the FIA world championships points system, which awards 25 points to the winner and 18 points to the runner-up, then 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2 points to the rest of… Continue Reading »

2012 DTM: Halfway Exhibition Events at Munich

We’ve reached the halfway point of the 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season, which means it’s time to hit the Olympic Stadium in Munich for a reprisal of the non-championship scoring event that started last year. The Mercedes-Benz DTM teams are all preparing for the event, and looking to make it a springboard for more success for the latter half of the season. Right now, Mercedes-Benz is ahead of the pack in every aspect—after the first 5 races, the automaker is ahead in the constructors’ standings, Gary Paffett is at the top of the drivers’ points, and HWA Team is leading the teams’ championship. The 2-day event at the Olympic Stadium… Continue Reading »

Paffett Gets Podium Finish at Red Bull Ring

After duking it out for the top spot, Gary Paffett eventually settled for third place at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg—making it his fourth podium finish in as many races so far in the 2012 DTM season. Edoardo Mortara of Audi took the race win, with Martin Tomczyk of BMW at second. With the third-place finish, Paffett was still able to add to his points total for the season. His 83 points is 36 more than second-placer Mattias Ekstrom of Audi. In addition, Paffett’s performance allowed Mercedes-Benz to take its fifth podium placer in four races. “Before the race, we had planned on securing as many points as possible… Continue Reading »

2012 DTM: Paffett Takes Second in Lausitzring

DTM action resumed at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, and Gary Paffett still managed to get a podium finish in his Mercedes-Benz. The winner of the first race of the season at Hockenheimring was able to finish second, sandwiched by two BMW drivers in the race results as Bruno Spengler took the win and Augusto Farfus took third. “I was just a bit too far behind at the pit-stop,” said Paffett of his THOMAS SABO Mercedes-Benz AMG C-Coupe being fast enough to take another win. “Having said that, my car was really quick and had a brilliant set-up, a tribute to the team. I was also so close to Bruno Spengler’s car… Continue Reading »
