Is Daimler Aiming for a Motorcycle Division

There have been speculations in the past that Daimler was looking to pursue the expansion of its vehicle range by adding a motorcycle division. This was fueled up when the German multinational automotive corporation joined in the bid to own Ducati two years ago. Unluckily, the famous motorcycle brand landed in the ownership of Volkswagen, a rival of Daimler. The brand was put under the Lamborghini development division of VW. This left Daimler as the only German automaker without a motorcycle division. Fast-forward today, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz is currently in a bid to secure the ownership of the Italian motorcycle-maker MV Agusta according to an MBWorld blog. Looking Back at the Mercedes-Benz AMG and Ducati Partnership

It was only a year ago that Mercedes-Benz AMG had a pretty solid marketing partnership with the premium motorcycle manufacturer Ducati. That partnership ended on the heels of Ducati being acquired by Audi, a Mercedes-Benz rival in the luxury car market. Even with the partnership having ended several months ago, it’s still nice to look back at the partnership that served as a true marvel for design and performance. The partnership has resulted in some pretty nifty collaborations, such as the Ducati Diavel AMG Special Edition, which made its way to the stage of the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. AMG and Ducati Partnership Ends

After Audi announced that they have acquired Ducati from Investindustrial Group, AMG also released a short statement that it has ended its “marketing cooperation” with the motorcycle brand. This is not surprising, since Audi is a competitor of Mercedes-Benz. Some blogs speculated that Mercedes-Benz AMG bid to buy Ducati, however, the three-star brand cleared that it was never part of their plans, saying “Our focus lies clearly in developing and producing premium performance cars and we will be concentrating all our energy on this.” Here’s AMG’s official and brief statement: Since the end of 2010 a successful marketing cooperation has existed between AMG and Ducati. SLK 55 AMG Streetfighter Seen In The Flesh

A few posts ago, we announced to you the Diavel/SLK 55 AMG pairing, which is the result of the Ducati/AMG collaboration. Now, a video has come out of the Streetfighter SLK 55 AMG which was taken at a recent car show. In the flesh, the SLK55 AMG looks like it’s ready to take on multiple opponents, as its moniker implies. Decked out in Ducati’s yellow and black Streetfighter combination, this SLK 55 AMG is uniquely styled, down to the yellow LEDs that mark the doorsills.
