[DTM] Paffett Wins at Lausitzring

It took a while, but it looks like the Mercedes-Benz team is coming along nicely in the 2013 DTM season. Gary Paffett, last year’s runner-up, took home the win at Lausitzring and boosted Mercedes-Benz up in the standings. “I had a great car,” said Paffett. “This was a perfect race.” The win was coupled with a podium finish for Mercedes-Benz junior team member Christian Vietoris, who got his first career pole position in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. It took 26 races for Vietoris to claim a pole position, and this is the first time a junior team member achieved the feat since Mercedes-Benz initiated it this past year. The podium is… Continue Reading »

[DTM] Lausitzring Preview for Mercedes-Benz Team

It’s round 4 of the 2013 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, and the Mercedes-Benz team is headed to EuroSpeedway Lausitz hoping that they’ll fare better after a disaster of a race at the Red Bull Ring last time out. Christian Vietoris, a junior team member who’s had the best season so far among Mercedes-Benz drivers, said that the 3,478-meter track is one of his favorites. He said starting grid position will again play a big role, as the team has underperformed in qualifying so far. Gary Paffett shared Vietoris’ sentiments in that the cars generally provide good race pace. “If we can just qualify for the first couple of rows, we can… Continue Reading »

[DTM] No Podium for Mercedes, Three Finish in Top 10

The race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg this past weekend could have gone much better for the Mercedes-Benz team. While there were three Mercedes AMG drivers who finished in the points, it’s hard to get excited when the best finisher is P7 for Christian Vietoris in his DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupe. Bruno Spengler won the race, followed by Marco Wittman and his teammate and former F1 driver Timo Glock. All three race for BMW, which now has its three racing teams taking the top three spots in the team standings. BMW also paces the manufacturer’s championship tally so far, over a hundred points ahead of Audi and Mercedes-Benz…. Continue Reading »

[DTM] Mercedes-Benz is Hopeful Heading into Red Bull Ring

The Mercedes-Benz team is heading into the third round of the DTM season with high hopes, as it takes on the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Gary Paffett and Christian Vietoris are fourth and fifth in the drivers’ championship race, and Mercedes is trailing BMW by 45 points in the manufacturers’ standings. It’s still a young season, though, and there’s plenty of racing left. Red Bull Ring, at 4.326 km, happens to be the second-longest track on the calendar for 2013, trailing only Hockenheimring. The race is slated for 47 laps, which makes for a total of 203.322 km, the longest on the calendar. “I had a decent race there… Continue Reading »

VfB Stuttgart Colors to Grace Pascal Wehrlein’s Mercedes AMG C-Coupe

The logo and colors of VfB Stuttgart, a football team set to compete in the 2013 DFB-Pokal final against Bayern Munich on June 1 at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, will be gracing the Mercedes AMG C-Coupe of Pascal Wehrlein for the third round of DTM action. Mercedes-Benz Bank happens to be the shirt sponsor of VfB Stuttgart, and the team’s home arena is the Mercedes-Benz Arena. They also ride a fancy Mercedes-Benz Travego Edition 1 when they go to their away matches. This cross-partnership is simply a no-brainer. We’ve gotten a taste of Wehrlein’s love for the sport of football after he got together with a couple of Austrian national squad… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz Driver Pascal Wehrlein Gives Austrian Footballers a Taste of DTM

Pascal Wehrlein, a driver for the Mercedes-Benz team in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, became a driving instructor for a day, to Andreas Ivanschitz and Sebastian Prodl, members of the Austrian national team. This special event was held at the Red Bull Ring, acting as a lead-up to the third DTM round this weekend at the circuit in Spielberg. They engaged in a driver training exercise, which included a trio of basic routines. The footballers got a taste of how to accelerate properly, brake correctly, and see the ideal racing line. They then got into a C63 AMG Performance Car, albeit in the passenger seat with Wehrlein at the helm. “This…… Continue Reading »

[DTM] Wickens Claims First Career Podium

After a tough qualifying session, there was some light at the end of the tunnel for the Mercedes-Benz DTM team. Robert Wickens managed to claim his first podium finish in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, climbing all the way from 13th on the starting grid all the way to P3 at the end of the race held at the historic Brands Hatch circuit. Gary Paffett was the guy who actually finished in P3, but he was slapped with a 5-second penalty after going past the speed limit in a sector during a yellow flag situation. That penalty bumped Paffett down to sixth, and Wickens moved up to the podium to join… Continue Reading »
