Nico Rosberg’s Never Give Up Attitude Impresses Dr. Dieter Zetsche

Nico Rosberg may not have been able to put up a great fight in Abu Dhabi in the 2014 season-ender race due to mechanical issues, but he surely gained the admiration of a lot of people in the way he handled the last fight, particularly Dr. Dieter Zetsche. According to Germany’s Sport Bild, the Daimler boss praised the success of the Mercedes Formula One team in an internal Christmas letter to employees. He commended the amazing performance of Mercedes-AMG Petronas, which led to its series of back-to-back wins and Constructors’ Championship. He expressed his pleasure as well with the triumph of the 2014 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton. However, Dr. Zetsche was specifically impressed with the attitude displayed… Continue Reading »

Daimler Promises to Keep the Steering Wheel in Autonomous Cars

With the coming wave of autonomous cars and even trucks, several questions were raised by critics and auto enthusiasts. Among them is, “what happens to the steering wheel?” According to Bloomberg, Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche promised that they will still retain the features that have defined automobiles since its invention like the steering wheel, and the basic pedals. The introduction of autonomous cars is currently perceived by many as an event that might put a lot of traditional car components inconsequential. That is the reason why Google killed off all the manual features in its prototype driverless car. However, Dr. Zetsche stated in his speech at Oxford yesterday, “We specifically do not want to… Continue Reading »

Daimler Boss Says No One Will Make Money on Electric Cars Yet

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive is now on sale, which received good reviews from critics. However, if money matters were to be considered, Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche does not seem to be so confident about electric cars as of the moment. According to Bloomberg, the Daimler Boss stated in a speech at an event in Mallorca, Spain on October 27, “You can reasonably say that nobody today is making a battery-powered vehicle that’s economically viable in its own right.” He added, “Manufacturers will not see a return within a reasonable time on the billions they’re investing now.” The statements were in reference to the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive and basically to every automaker diving… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz CLA Remains the Company’s Best-Seller in U.S.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA remains as the three-pointed star marque’s best-selling luxury vehicle in the U.S. However, the supply for the variant remains tight. Daimler boss Dr. Dieter Zetsche himself said that they could have sold twice as many vehicles easily if it weren’t for supply constraints. As a remedy to the problem, Dr. Zetsche revealed that the U.S. will get additional CLA units. He stated that there would be an increased allocation in the area, but he wouldn’t reveal the specific figures. Executives in the Mercedes division admitted that their current supply for the CLAs at U.S. dealerships were only good for fewer than 10 days. So, the decision of… Continue Reading »

Daimler Might Buy Aston Martin Sooner or Later

Daimler recently increased its stake with Aston Martin from 4 percent to 5 percent. The numbers may look like a very small figure for the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, but the extra cash would enable the British supercar brand to have more funds for its operations. The recent move of Daimler to buy more shares in Aston Martin fueled further speculations that it might be looking to buy the British carmaker sooner or later. In the previous interview of Dr. Dieter Zetsche regarding the matter, he denied having such plans. He said that their partnership only involve “arm’s length transaction”. In the words of the Daimler CEO, such decision “could… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Retains Michael Schumacher as Ambassador

Mercedes-Benz confirmed that Michael Schumacher remains as its ambassador. The decision of the company came despite the current medical condition of the Formula One legend. It should be noted that Schumacher had an accident while skiing with his son at Meribel Ski Resort in the French Alps on December 29, 2013. The incident left him with a serious head injury, which led doctors to place him in a medically-induced coma. Luckily, like the fighter that he was during his run as a racer, Schumacher has beaten the odds. Announcement of his recovery came on June 16 this year. Recent reports say that he is still undergoing rehabilitation. So far, no word… Continue Reading »
